What kind of 10 shot groups are you getting at 600 yards ?

I've been shooting a local club's 600 yard matches recently with my 6BR, these are fun shoots only and not an authorized match of any kind, and I'm trying to find out how my shooting stacks up. We shoot 10 shot groups with several different classes depending on the guns. I've shot several 3" groups and a few 2.5". What kind of groups are you guys getting?

2.5 to 3'' 10 shot groups at 600 is pretty dam good!!!!

on long strings where I shoot the wind switches so much it is very frustrating trying to get off 10 rounds,,and is why I shoot 4 shots machine gunning trying to test loads and not my wind skilz

I tried a few times just to check vertical and 10 Scenars with 32.3 Varget would hold 2.5-3 inches vertical and be about 4-4.5 wide,,

wish I had some good flags with about 30 ft tall poles,,

I will shoot 2 10 rounders right before dark next time I get out after the 104 BIBS get here this week

I have shot 10 at 300 at 3/4 inch with 6.5x47 with 130 vld and H4350
sayin all that you would spank me unless it was just a slight breeze just enough to keep mirage from boil

I'm shooting a straight BR with 105 gr Berger Hybrids, cci 450 primers and 30.0 grs Rel-15 seated with a square mark on the bullets. My next gun will be a dasher for 1000 yards but this 6BR is just so easy to tune.

one inch at 600 yards. You ARE the man. I usually have a 2 to 2.5" going and I'll throw a flyer or two. I'm going to start a detailed sorting program so I can get the flyers out of my groups.

Larry, you shot a 1.027 10 shot group at 600?

No sorry it was 5 shots and the next 5 was 1.33 with a change in target I never get the same size group in the top and bottom target . The one that was 1.07 had one bullet away in a horizontal over 1/2 inch . Was that conditions or the shooter ? Larry

Dan, use a colored marker and color the bullets on your first five rounds, then you will know the size of your 2 5 shot groups also if you had a flyer you would know what group it came from.

Your target shows both wind and mirage. Till you learn how to read both you can expect the same. Most of us including me have the same results.
Top shooters win because of their ability to read changing conditions. Larry

I was running the match you shot in and your one bullet to the right was likely caused by wind. We had great conditions this past weekend but we did get some L-R gusts that may have been hard to pick up.

Keep doing what you are doing, you are definately on the right track. Recommend you work on shooting faster. My best groups at Eatonville have been when I ran them. When I shoot slower and pick conditions/wait for conditions to return I almost always have one or two out like you had the other day.

I wonder how you are able to tell from the photograph under which conditions this group was shot. How can you tell that the dispersion was caused by wind and mirage rather than inconsistent charge weight, inconsistent neck tension, seating depth variations, wobbly bipod, improperly torqued action screws, scope parallax adjustment set incorrectly, or gnats flying up the shooters nose?

Jet your right in that I need to work on my form so I can run them quicker. I thought I had a handle on most of the wind but obviously not. More shooting will be needed.

Yes sir if they track and the condition holds you can run them……. If it don't, like 95% of the time your a picker………… lol.. Best learn to read the conditions….. jim

Great shooting Dan! For me, this level of shooting is still a goal...you could say you "pulled" 9 to the left 8)

Ben this kind of shooting is still a goal for myself as well. When I can make it the norm rather than the exception I'll be good to go. But really I think JET had it right. I need to work on my form so I can run a good group, or two.

This rifle is configured a little different than the norm in that I'm using a stock best known for it's short range success, Scoville. But it's long enough to handle a 28" HV Krieger with some weight in the butt. I think my next build, that I'm working on now, will have a Shehane tracker or something like that in a laminate construction.
