What it takes to win matches.....

consistent and sustained elevation! Jon Beanland made me this 6.5x47L ten years back and it's still delivering this kind of elevation...original barrel has over 2600 rounds through it. Shot these five rounds from 800 yards this afternoon....had a fishtail wind of around 8-10. Load is 38 grains Varget with BR4 primers using 130 gr. Berger target VLD bullets seated touching the lands. I've got a 6MM Dasher that will do the same thing....day in day out!

Sound like you have a few good shooting guns....You asked..." What's It Take To Win Matches?"....Going to them & competing. I have personally found that is has something to do with the " Jerk Behind The Trigger " as well.......... ;)

Regards
Rick

So what match was that a win at?

I think some are missing g the point IMO. He seems to be saying if you don't have your elevation under control, your wind reading, table manners, etc will be wasted. I know how to get waterline elevation, just don't take the time in most of my shooting now a days. Congrats on that M14. If I make it to 82, I would be happy just to hit the plate every now and then!

go to a match and hold good concentration, like hitting a golf ball with a driver you can look up a bit and still hit it good, with a short wedge you look up a bit and u still have the wedge again

to win
you have to show up
you have to enter
you have to have a shooting system that is competitive
1 a rifle that is competitive
2 competitive ammo
3 you need to have fun and believe it is possible

a little luck never hurt
i won a 600 yd br national championship at my first 600 br match with a new rifle
