What is your recoil limit?

My 300 wby and 300 wsm are going to be going down the road.
I do not enjoy shooting them anymore.
The wby has a brake and I still don't enjoy it anymore.
At 72 years young I will keep the 270 wsm and the 25-06.
They will do anything that I will want to and be fun to shoot.

I drag out the hotter pistols when my wrist is acting up.
Knocks the bone spurs down and all is fine :)
I don' have shoulder issues, yet, but like shooting the old battle rifles.

Have to say that the 22N for 60 to 80 rounds is NOTHING.

I'm primarily a deer hunter. When I hunt the Hill Country of Texas I use a 6.8 SPC. In South Texas, where the deer are bigger I use a .270. As to my limit, I'd say a .30-06/180gr.

If I really, really had to hunt dangerous game, I'd force myself to learn to shoot a .375 - at least well enough for 3 shots!

If I keep the round count reasonable and I can shoot up to the 300WM without developing a horrible flinch lol.

Worst recoil I ever had to deal with was 12 ga. Remington Core Loct Ultra 3" sabot slugs. I had been shooting 3" Copper Solids with no issues and I saw these were faster and flatter so I bought two boxes to try in my 870 rifled slug gun. First slug made my shoulder feel like I had been hit with a sledge hammer. I thought maybe I didn't have it pulled in tight and it got a run at me. So I shucked the second one in and gripped it firmly. This time in addition to feeling like I was tearing parts off of my shoulder, I also got a fat lip from bearing down on the stock. Gave the remaining 8 slugs to a buddy with an 11-87 gas gun.

I probably should have sent the box back to Remington as I am sure they were overloaded.

One other bad recoil experience was with an AR-10 gas gun shooting 185 Juggernauts. I had been playing around with a couple of different butt stocks and forgot to swap out the buffer to the .308 carbine buffer when i decided on a UBR stock that had a standard AR-15 buffer in it. My buddy shot 22 rounds at 1000 yards with it and scored well but he would curse after every shot. He had a horrible headache on the way home too. I figured out about the buffer when I went to clean the rifle... I apologized to him about his concussion.

For me, there's a distinction between my recoil limit and what I find unpleasant to shoot. As I mentioned earlier, my recoil limit is reached when the rifle's energy is transferred directly to a specific spot on my shoulder that has been surgically repaired, causing intense pain. On the other hand, 'unpleasant' refers to my 7 lb 30-06 or my Hawken loaded with hunting Maxi-Balls and 3 Pyrodex pellets, which can sometimes make my mouth bleed. While I can tolerate and practice with the unpleasant, I avoid anything that's painful or potentially damaging.

Anything shot from a sitting position at a bench is going to feel like twice the recoil. I can shoot my 20ga citori all aftenoon at clays, but 2 shots from a benchrest position over the crony taught me a lesson.
