What is your real free bore length?

According to Mr. Hugh Henriksen, there is some misunderstanding of free bore. For example my 6 PPC reamer has a nominal .025" free bore, but the chamber has an overall length of 1.515. Therefore, the effective free bore is at least .040". If I understood him correctly, the length of the chamber in front of the case mouth must be added to the nominal free bore of the reamer. Good shooting...James

I too believe the freebore depends on the OAL of chamber. One reamer with a freebore of .130 and a chamber OAL of 1.560 will be different than a reamer with a chamber OAL of 1.570 and same freebore of .130. The longer chamber OAL will require a longer loaded case OAL to reach the lands. That's my take on it...

Yes. I did not take the chamber length into account on one reamer I ordered. The freebore of the reamer PLUS the difference in case length/ chamber length AND the small "hidden" freebore of the angle cut where the chamber ends and bore begins gave me way too much distance before a seated bullet touched the lands...case was a 22brx with a short neck.

I just had a chamber done and thought I too had a freebore that was way too long. I was trying to find the lads with a Hornady tool and a modified case. It would push the bullet almost completely out of the case before it stopped. Something just didn't seem right. I seated a bullet where I thought I would be about .010" into the lands and marked the bullet with a sharpie to see land engagement. It was almost a perfect .010". I'm not sure why this chamber let the bullet go so far into the leade before the billet stopped but I'm using the marked bullet as a starting point for seating depth measurements.
