What is your preferred Parie Dog Scope?

I would appreciate some assistance from experienced long range shooters. The highest power scope I have is a 6.5 by 20 and I would like to step up to something closer to 42 power. Dollar for dollar, what would you recommend?, please keep it in the $2,000 to $2,500 range. Also, considering it's for long range varmints, what reticles and options would you recommend?

NF 12-42 in either the NSX or NBR.. NSX is built like a tank, NBR is a bench gun scope.. Same optics. Great scope.. I also have an SIII in a 10-50, which is also a great scope for the money.

With your budget, you'll be able to score a great scope. Just decide your application...

Not sure if you have a choice with the illuminated reticle on NF. Never used mine yet, except when showing someone the cool factor... Good choice on reticle too!! I have that in my NBR and like it lots.....

My vote goes to NF also, I'm using the BR model with the NPDD and NP1rr reticles. For clicking I perfer the NP2DD for hold overpoints the NP1rr

Don't consider myself a "long range" shooter, since 600 yds. is the furtherest I've ever been able to shoot, but would suggest the Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x. Now have 4 & they are my "top of the line" scopes. For longer distances, do prefer the NP-R2 reticle. NP-2DD for shorter distances.

You do not have a choice about the lighted reticle. They are all lighted. I have used mine, on the rare occassions of heavy overcast & poor lighting conditions. In conditions like that they do have their advantages. Better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

If I were forced to criticize them, my only comment would be: they are really heavy at 36 oz. & bulky, but that's the price you pay for a 56mm objective.

Off setting that though is the advantage of seldom ever having to use a spotting scope. In all but the worst mirage conditions I'm able to find my shot holes with the NF.

shot the nxs 12/42 with the npr1 last year dog hunting from 100 to 1000 yds and never had to click,all hash marks. Liked that scope
