What is your favorite 308 based cartridge

The 7-08 in a Tikka, T-3 Lite, was the Sweetest, BEST Handling, "Big Game", Cart / Rifle,.. I've ever seen !
My son's 7-08, Super Lite, SS Tikka T-3 weighed, 7 Pounds WITH, a 3 x 9 Burris Scope !
Shot 150 grain ELD-X's, real Nice and he shot an Elk at, 247 yds with it, DRT,.. a Sweet lil' Rifle, IMO

I started my venture in 1984 with a 788, took a ton of deer with that one. (Still have and use)
Bought a tikka t3 when they first they came out, my go to! Man i love that tikka.
I also have a rem 700 classic but i have never hunted with it,
139 gr hornady interlocks (flat base) loaded with varget are my favorite combo.

Lots of really Good One's - .22-250 Rem., .243 win, 6 XC, .260 Ai, 7mm-08 and my New, Current Favorite,..
the 6.5 CREEDMOOR !
130 grain bullets going, 2,850 fps from, my braked, 7 1/2 pound, 6.5 Creed, rifle,. IS,.."Sweet" !
Accurate ( from "Clover Leaf's" to, 1/2 MOA ) and really, REALLY,.. Lite, recoil !
8 to 10 inch diameter, steel Plates ARE a "tinging" at,.. 850 yards !

An observation or two, if I might ….

.22-250 was initially a .224” cal “ wildcat “ cartridge, based off the venerable
.250 Savage case ( that itself was formerly also known as “ .250-3000 “ ).
Besides the base diam difference, .250-3000 predated the .308 by a few decades.

The ” 6XC “ Tubb started out being based off .22-250 brass, to fit a chamber cut by running a .243Win reamer in a tad “ short “; which gave it a .22-250 base diam.
At least, that’s what I’ve read.

I’m not trying to be a “ wise _ _ _ “.

All these use, the SAME Shell holder and have, the SAME "Rim" size ( .473 dia ) that's All, I know,.. LOL )
I probably shouldn't,.. "Lump" them, together. ( I'm HERE for, the Fun ! )
I'm aware of, the History of, the 6 XC, since I Own One and did a lot of, Research before, building It.
I also Own, a .22-250 Rem that comes Off, the old .250 Savage, parent cartridge.
I LIKE, Several,.. .308 Rim Dia ( .473 ) Cartridges But, have NEVER owned, a .308 !
Shot / Hunted w/ the .30-06 for about, a Decade, then moved to,.. a .270 Weatherby Mark 5, "Lefty".
The 6.5 Creed and 7MM-08 could easily,.. Replace, the .308,.. IMO
I Like Less Bullet,.. LESS, Recoil ! ( Great BC's w/ 130's to, 150's for, Me )

I was under the presumption that, to be based off the .308 case, we were discussing chamberings which used the same headspace gauge.

Otherwise, the question is really just what is your favorite cartridge.

The first iteration of the XC was the 6 MMX. The MMX had the 243 shoulder angle. It took the same loads as the XC n velocity. Had that cartridge in a Scott Medesha built AR-10. Sort of a Tubb gun that loaded itself. Also chambered a bolt gun for the MMX as well. When the XC came along, factory brass became readily available n left the MMX in the rear view mirror.

the BR family of cartridges,,,,,the original 22 BR then of course the 6mmBR (this is the 6 BR site !!!) and don't for get the Dasher family and the multitude of other cousin cartridges ......,,, it seems like everyone has forgotten that the "original" BR's were formed from .308 basic brass that was produced to make the BR ctg,,,,,I still have the set of button dies to form the basic brass Down from 30 caliber in steps clear down to 22 caliber,, thank goodness we have the modern day Lapua brass that we can just take out of the box and shoot our way into the record books...Roger

Don't neglect the 7mmBR. That old girl can really shoot and I still love mine!

270-08.
Always wanted one. Came up with a set of reloading dies. Was rationalizing how I could use a 260 reamer with a 270 bushing then neck and throat. But I bought the correct reamer off ads on this site.
Red/white/blue laminate thumbhole stock roughed by Lawson in Tucson. I am working on finishing.
I have a second accompanying rifle in 375 Weatherby without the thumbhole, i contoured the barrels to match, 375 is 0.1” larger in all diameters than 270. Overall lengths are the same.

I also am a 6.5 Lapua fan.
