For me, my “.358AutoMag “ ( .357AutoMag expanded to full .358” cal; to allow use of .358” cal rifle bullets ). Formed off either 6BR or 7BR SR-primed brass.

Hyper accurate in a benchrest-grade rifle.

My 260 Ackley Improved sure has been good for me. More range than my stock 308, more power than my 6mm Remington (243 type) and easy to fireform with 260 Remington ammo if need be.

the BR family of cartridges,,,,,the original 22 BR then of course the 6mmBR (this is the 6 BR site !!!) and don't for get the Dasher family and the multitude of other cousin cartridges ......,,, it seems like everyone has forgotten that the "original" BR's were formed from .308 basic brass that was produced to make the BR ctg,,,,,I still have the set of button dies to form the basic brass Down from 30 caliber in steps clear down to 22 caliber,, thank goodness we have the modern day Lapua brass that we can just take out of the box and shoot our way into the record books...Roger

My favorite is the 308. Next is the 7mm-08. I built a 7mm-08 before we got any Remingtons in the store. It is a very good cartridge. I got a 260 reamer when the cartridge was announced. I like it too. The only 308 based cartridge I don't really care for is the 243 (apologies to the fans). I like the 358 and carried one for a few years. Shot some deer with it. I think the 338 Federal is a good cartridge, but it suffered from the lack of a platform
Now, I don't consider any cartridge which does not have the same headspace as the parent to be "308-based". So, the Creedmoor doesn't make the cut. WH

130 grain bullets going, 2,850 fps from, my braked, 7 1/2 pound, 6.5 Creed, rifle,. IS,.."Sweet" !
Accurate ( from "Clover Leaf's" to, 1/2 MOA ) and really, REALLY,.. Lite, recoil !
8 to 10 inch diameter, steel Plates ARE a "tinging" at,.. 850 yards !

7mm08 Duh!

The 7-08 in a Tikka, T-3 Lite, was the Sweetest, BEST Handling, "Big Game", Cart / Rifle,.. I've ever seen !
My son's 7-08, Super Lite, SS Tikka T-3 weighed, 7 Pounds WITH, a 3 x 9 Burris Scope !
Shot 150 grain ELD-X's, real Nice and he shot an Elk at, 247 yds with it, DRT,.. a Sweet lil' Rifle, IMO

I've gotta say that even though I don't own one - yet, that I've come to like the 7-08 a lot.
I've been loading for a friend's for awhile now, and I think I'll prolly have to get one. I'm thinking that with all the new magical ELD bullets that it's gotta be better than the boring old reliable 308. jd
