What is your favorite 308 based cartridge

They are all good in my opinion but the 243 Win is my all-time favorite especially as a dual-purpose cartridge (i.e., deer and varmints/predators).

Plain old 308. I just took my new old Winchester pre64 action and a new Bartlien barrel into a gunsmith near me. He had all kinds of “tactical type” guns with carbon wrapped barrels in his racks. I said “chamber it in 308” and he said “BORING!” I stuck with my choice.

Really like the 7/08. I've had 3 of them, still have 2. I find they punch higher than their weight class. JMO

1) .260: The lack of recoil and capability with the long .26 cal bullets
2) .308: The jack of all trades, master of none. It's hard to beat.

If I had ever played with a 7-08, I think it would've replaced the two above.

I shoot a good bit of 308 but really enjoy my Tikka 260 when I get it out. AR10 in 338 federal is pretty great also though.

thats impressive when did you start? i havent had one or id prob replace the 308 with it.

Since I've owned 3 in .308, you could probably say that, but the .243, 7mm 08, and the .338 Fed were all easy to load for and shot really well. Had to rebarrel the only finicky .308, and got rid of the 7mm just because I didn't like the gun it came in.

So far 260, I like .308 and want to try 7-08. I suspect 7-08 may be the sweet spot.

7-08 my last factory Rem 700 mtn rifle. Both have taken many deer.

I think that the 260 if it has a flaw, is there is not enough case capacity to move the long heavy 140 and bigger bullets. 308 case AI with a 6.25 mm or 6.35mm bullet. Something halfway in between a 6 and a 6.5.
