Two top gunsmiths both told me they start to go the other way at 1500 rounds...meaning the benchrest guys change at around 1500, F-Class guys can usually get a bit more.
That was my finding with my first 6BR. From 1,500 on 600 yard groups gradually but steadily increased. That was VarGet / 105 Berger VLD at under 2,800 fps in a 28-inch barrel. It still shot fairly well short range at 3,000 rounds for anything other than BR, but MVs dropped way off and on rebarrelling my 'smith said words to the effect of 'My God, that's one of the most worn 6BR barrels I've ever seen!' I have seen barrels go at less than 1,000 in BR and that's with Viht N150, normally regarded as 'cool burning' - which goes to show that if you load anything up hot enough (and these loads were, big time), barrel life is poor.
