What is the theoretical precision of a riflescope.

Like I mentioned it earlier, I don't doubt wind can play a role. But when you groups open up in dead calm conditions and some of group size increase is related to changes in verticals, you can understand why I don't completely buy the wind explanation.

Last thought on the subject :"Dead calm" as determined by ?.... A good read for you would be Tony Boyer's and Mike Ratigan's books on extreme rifle accuracy.....they both avoid shooting dead calm conditions in a match for very good reason - slow moving mirage. Look it up.

These would be early morning shoots before the wind picks up. Of course, if you want to enlighten me on why not to shoot on dead calm conditions, I am always happy to learn something new. If it is about mirage, no significant mirage on those days.
