I have a SS Rem 700 LA (Ultra Mag) and need a good bit more room in the magazine for seating bullets out closer to the lands. Cartridge is a 338-375 Ruger using 250gr Berger EH VLD bullets. Chamber is specifically throated for these bullets without the base of the bullet breaking the datum line of the brass. But my magazine restrictions don't allow me to get very close to the lands. Thus I am forced to seat the bullets a lot deeper and make a much longer jump to the lands than I am normally comfortable with.
My 700 is actually an Ultra Mag action so it already has the extended mag box and modified bolt stop, but I need a good bit more.
I understand that I will most likely have to modify my stock inletting and maybe even the mag well of the action. That's ok. I am already planning on going to a side bolt release as well so bolt stop length could be tailored to the new mag length.
Just wanting to know what is the longest overall magazine length possible in a Rem 700 LA with after market bottom metal/mag?
I'm assuming it will have to be a magazine designed for the 338 Lapua...and also wondering if those feed ramps would work on the case diameter of the 375 Ruger? (pretty close in dia. to a 300 win mag). Thanks fellas.
