What is the best rust remover you have found?

a Tsp. horse urine.

Collect it from a wild mustang stallion, their diet of 'all natural' food makes it work much faster. HOWEVER, collection is more difficult!!! A couple of bites, a stomping and a kick or two to the head and 'onions' and until the swelling is completely gone and perhaps forever you will not remember exactly what got you to where you are and what that quart of awfull smelling yellowish liquid in the jar is for!!! Don't use it on that stainless steel plate in your head or replacement hip joint that resulted from what you cannot remember. Just sayin!

Well, the fastest most absolute effective thing I have ever used or seen is a knotted wire brush on an 8 inch angle grinder. There are of course some things that you just cannot use this on obviously, but for just plain old rust on things like tools or big pieces of rusty metal...the knotted wire brush is your fastest most effective friend.
Next in line would be a steel shot blaster...like used in automotive machine shops to clean castings. You are limited to what will fit in the cabinet but it will sure show you bare metal in a short time.

Or a 34 cu.ft. Pangborn Rotoblast.

Search for rust removal using electrolysis. Not difficult to set up and with experimentation is very controllable. Much more appropriate for firearm related items than metallic media blasting. There is an interesting blast cleaning method that uses dry ice pellets for a media.
I was involved in testing it to clean shell molding core boxes. Did not remove metal and no clean up afterwards. Down side was cost of the equipment.
