What is bumping shoulders and how do you do it?

I have a redding type s bushing die, full lenght resize) for my 308 cal.

I was reading in the articles section,Froggy Part II -- Reloading) that he bumps his shoulders .001 to .002.

How do you adjust your die for that and how do you measure the results?
Invest in a Wilson case gauge for you calibers. I did so for an old 22-250 and eliminated hard bolt closing.

If you're dealing with an unknown chamber due to an off the shelf reamer and an unknown die due to an off the shelf die set and an unknown datum due to an off the shelf comparator what does shoulder set back have to do with any of it?
If you're invested in custom equipment then this applies *if* it was made to match. Otherwise you're just chasing what you expect from what you've read and hoping you're right from what your mixed and matched gear implies.
Too much tolerance stacking to get all 'wrapped around the axle' for the average or even above average guy here. It all has to match or it doesn't matter. Spontaneous serendipity notwithstanding.
