What is a good rifle soft case...?

I have a couple of new rifles and want to get new soft cases to carry them while traveling. The cases I presently have are marginal in depth and length.... and are have minimal padding too.

I don't mind paying for quality but do appreciate value for the money spent.

Both rifles are an actual ~50" long with optics mounted on high rings.

I appreciate your thoughts, comments and recommendations. :)

I have two Bald Eagle cases that are sold by Grizzly. I am satisfied with them. They are made for big, long rifles, with big scopes.

Comes in red or black and they ship fast. The same case is also available on Amazon.

I got this one from Midway.

It fit my new rifle with a 34" barrel, and it's padded, and the price was right. Just started using it this yr but so far I'm happy with mine.

+1 on the AIM bag. Expensive but very well made and it has plenty of useful features. The only downside with the AIM is transportation. It is very hard to take on an airplane; so I only use it when I'm driving. I also have a couple of the Bald Eagle bags which are excellent. The Bald Eagles fold up easily and can fit in a big duffle bag or something similar. I take those when I'm flying to a match. Long barreled F-Open guns with scopes fit very nicely in both AIM and Bald Eagle.

As others have stated, the AIM bags are quite nice and when compared to the Midway bag it's easy to see where the extra $ went into the materials for assembly. I've had the opportunity to examine one first hand and they are certainly finely crafted and well engineered.

I have owned the Blackhawk drag bag. A step down (perhaps 2), from the AIM, and a step up from the Midway, which I also own. I have been completely satisfied with both. (blackhawk: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/242184/blackhawk-long-gun-sniper-drag-bag-51-nylon-black)

I also have the Blackhawk drag mat. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2238145913/blackhawk-stalker-drag-mat-shooting-mat

For a run down to the club, the Midway drag bag and Blackhawk drag mat are completely capable of being tossed into the back.

However, as another stated, there is no substitute for a hard case, and my Pelican 1750s see frequent use, especially when traveling with a load, where the chance of something shifting or being piled upon them is a possibility.

I would say that if you want the very best in soft bags, go AIM.

If you'd like to spend just a little less and get a lot less than an AIM, consider the Blackhawk.

If you purchase the Blackhawk, consider you could have bought (3) of the Midway drag bags and not been significantly ahead.

I purchased the 56" Midway this time around because I like being able to remove the nose cap, it's padding and security are on par with the Blackhawk (if not the quality of materials used), and it is completely sufficient to meet my needs.

But I must confess, I use the Blackhawk Stalker Drag Mat more than any other case I own and I don't think it's missed a trip to the range or cross country in the 10 years I've owned it. I prefer to shoot prone, and it's nice to have a bag that's practical not only for trips to and from, but while shooting as well.

The AIM looks like a really nice bag.... but does it sell direct from an American vendor? Google did not come up with one when I hit search.

How about the Creedmoor Deluxe Scoped Rifle Case ...?

edit to add.... Went to the UK website and tried to purchase an AIM bag... The check out took me to what was identified (Avast) as a malicious website and when I tried to proceed I was kicked off and lost all the info.... I think I will be watching my credit card very closely for a while.... :o

I mentioned to AIM about what happened to you, as they have been very friendly and helpful when I have spoken to them in the past:
Thanks very much for bringing this to our attention. Our website is actually hosted for us using a software package created by our hosting providers. I got in touch with them and they have replied asking for some more information. Here is an extract of their email:

“To investigate further it would help if you could provide any of the details reported by the anti-virus software when flagging your site up as a malicious site and a screen-shot of this if possible - this should help in escalating the issue to the e-shop developers.

I understand that you may not be able to ask your customers for this information - but if you could try and gather any details on the steps required to replicate the issue and also confirm details on the web-browser, operating system and anti-virus software being used by customers encountering this problem this should help to identify what is causing this issue.”

If you could reply to the person’s post asking them for any or all of this information it would be greatly appreciated. That way we can get the issue solved as soon as possible.

Thanks again,

I own 2 of the Midway bags and they are great, lots of padding and you could even put 2 guns in each one. It has shoulder straps ( like a backpack )or you could just take them off and use the one shoulder strap or just the carry handles. They are worth the money.

Hey Gareth

Not at all Sir. Thank you very much for your actions and concern..........

To Update my previous post. AVAST Internet Security is the program.

About an hour after I made my post I received an e mail stating that the order was confirmed. The next day (yesterday) I received an e mail stating that payment had been received. I am assuming that the AVAST Internet Security/antivirus program just balked at the secondary website (Sagepay) it was directed/transferred to as a part of the checkout process.....

I have yet to receive the case - probably sometime next week... I did receive the case from Creedmore Sports and although it is a more conventional soft case I look forward to comparing it (quality wise) to the AIM case.

Thanks...!

Merlin
