What heavy .25 bullets ?

A 140 class .257 bullet would be great.
I sit back and think how close the .264 and .257 bores really are to each other and having both, wouldn't think I'd get all that excited about a heavier .257. Amazing how just a few grains heavier and few bc numbers higher will make a quarter bore shooter feel. Been a long time coming for that caliber getting a new look in performance. Sure would like to see a maximized bullet weight in the .257. I think getting into that next level of weight (140+), the 257 Weatherby and some of the bigger magnum cartridges will really gain some new owners. The 130 class works great for the standard cartridge size cases but even they will get a bump in over all performance with a heavier bullet. I see the upper 140-150 as the maximum weight bullet for the .257 but sure can't wait to see who rolls them out. My guess is Berger will be the next to take it into the 140s.

It's caught on. I'd expect some ATips in the .257 eventually. 140 grain in the .75 range
Quarter bore 140 grainer with a .750 BC is something like a 25 WSM or 25 PRC using the 7 PRC case would make for a pretty potent combo especially at distance.

Run the numbers through a ballistic app comparing something like a .257 140gr .750BC to .284 180gr .680BC and it definitely makes you take notice of the .257's.

Bingo. I'm a believer in heavy bullets wins in wind considering the BCs/Velocities are close. Luckily I have both.

Your prayers have been answered.
I have talked to a guy about those on another forum. I think he was running them in a 257 weatherby mag. Not sure the bc or availability. I was meaning if Berger or Hornady came out with one. Thanks for the info though.

Decent BC but not like the 131-135 BJ, Berger or Hornady. I spoke to him about his bullets. There made to order and I'm sure are good bullets. If the Berger's or Hornady's weren't available, I'd be much more interested in the Black Hole bullets.

I tested the Hornady 134 ELD out to 1K today shooting them out of a 25 Creed.

With a 100 yard zero I needed 6.8 mils elevation correction at 1K , I also shot the Berger 135 LRHT side by side (my goto for my 25 Creed) and the Bergers impacted maybe an inch higher running at approximately the same velocity 2950 FPS.

Yards
397 1.4 Mils
601 2.9 Mils
804 4.7 Mils
1001 6.8 Mils

It was difficult to get good accuracy data due to the wind conditions, lots of wind
constantly changing direction but was able to put three into a 3" group at 600 yards
and hit a 5" plate at 1k a couple if times. All the misses were me playing poker with the wind.

The Hornady app does not list this bullet so I just used my data from shooting the 135 Bergers
and it was for the most part identical holds.

Are you referring to the 134 ELD-M or the 135 Bergers?
Either way, they're both in Hornady 4DOF

Anything knew on the 145 black hole, anyone go and get these and run them?

Just got my 25 saum, need to get it in a stock and start shooting, may check these out

Use to be a huge 25/06 fan 15-20 years ago, shot 2 barrels out, but the lack of high BC bullets back then made me go to 6mm and 6.5mms for the obvious reasons. I shot the 115 Bergers, 115g NBTs, and 125g ULD RBBTs from Wildcat.

Might have to check back into a custom 25/06 28" Bartlein 8 twist and the 134g ELDMs...

kyotek, what was your most accurate 25 cal bullet, generally?

Those 125g ULD RBBTs were the most accurate. Several sub 2" groups at 400 yards. Then the Bergers, then the Btips. Nome of them shot over 1/2 MOA, 3/4 on a bad day. All 3 great bullets. I had a couple very good shooting 25s though, so that helped. Killed a ton of dogs, couple antelope, lots of muleys/whitetails, 3 black bears, and a cow elk with those 25/06s out to 600 yards over the years. I loved the 25/06. It was the cartridge that got me started into long range shooting at 13 years old.

Killed my biggest Oregon Whitetail with the 125g Wildcats at 450 yards about 18 years ago. He went 145" 1 shot behind the shoulder and he piled up about 50 yards.

I'm not sure if Wildcat bullets are still available or not. When I was shooting them, Richard Graves was the owner/maker out of Canada. Then I believe he sold the company or rights to a guy in Nevada. Not sure if he's still got them going or not?
