What happened to the new Backcountry cartridges

No. They are going just fine. Ordered a rifle and it should be in next week. Waiting for the "Big, Beautiful Bill" to pass so I can order a new suppressor for the higher pressure.

I will never understand some of the old curmudgeons on here. They remind me of Scrooge.

Think about this for a minute. Reloaders currently use pressure signs like primer flattening and bolt swipe to determine the max load in their rifle. These signs indicate pressures of 70-75,000 psi. Well over SAAMI pressure ratings. Now, lets take a case with a steel head and a pressure rating of 80,000 psi. Using the same pressure signs, what is the limit? Will the rifle fail before pressure signs show? Will primers hold up? Seems that these type cartridges make having a pressuretrace 2 system almost mandatory. Honestly, this ole curmudgeon don't want 80,000+ psi anywhere near his face or even shooting next to me

Well lets look at it with a little math.

A magnum bolt face (.532) at 65,000 psi has a theoretical bolt thrust of 14,495 lbs.
A standard bolt face (.473) at 80,000 psi has a theoretical bolt thrust of 14,080 lbs.

Not much difference. Having fired this cartridge already and inspected the fired cartridges for pressure signs, it really points out the limitation of a brass cartridge. Bolt lift was easy and primers were not flattened.

Note to ISS: newer brings NEW shooters into our hobby keeping the industry strong. I don’t buy the new stuff but I’m happy for the ones that do.

I’m curious as to why a new shooter would be attracted to a new cartridge rather than a well tested one that has stood the test of time?

If you look at capabilities there are many cartridges that perform about the same. Like someone else said new cartridges are only to stimulate sales. Kind of like they change car styles every year. If they made the same style car 5 years in a row sales would go way down.

The reason for this cartridge is for hunting with a suppressor. I can get a 175gr. bullet going almost 2800 fps out of a 18" barrel. With this in mind I can now have my rifle suppressed and just under 24" of barrel length. Much easier to carry while hiking especially in timber.

New cartridge designs are fine.
As long as they perform some actual need.
And I don't want to hear some made up Bull that it shoots flies off of a T-Rex at 3 miles.
(You know who you are!)

A lot of the new cartridges out are supposedly to shoot heavier bullets.
Again I'm calling BS.
As it's the barrel that would allow that. Or not allow whichever the case may be.

For my hunting (primary use for my rifles) I don't need to shoot the heaviest bullets out there.

And if I want to, I'll screw another barrel on with a faster twist.

I agree 100% on all counts, but it has nothing to do with what I said.

I disagree that new cartridges attract new shooters to the game. I believe that a newer shooter is simply more susceptible to the marketing gimmicks, because they don’t know any better.
Same thing.

With the higher pressures the backcountry and the Fury will be limited to bonded and Mono bullets.
