What FFL to get

It is about time I got an FFL. Would like to do some gunsmithing for other but which FFL do I get? I was at my local FFL and he said there are three different types now? Which do I go for? Living in PA if that helps.

yes plus suppressors. it'll make you a bunch of money these days doing transfers and selling cans.

Pretty sure you have to have a SOT stamp no matter what FFl you have in order to sell suppressors.

Best to call ATFE . It's not going to be cheap but it'll pay for itself with suppressor design and manuf .

You'll also need a county , state license, start a corporation, talk to an attorney .

07 FFL is $150.00 for 3 years, I got one, you can manufacture firearms and ammo, plus do gunsmith work and buy and sell. Suppressors building or selling fall under a different type,if im,right it's a class 03.

My smith has talked about going to type 3 for suppressor transfers. He has been doing more threading last couple years.

A type 07 will allow you to get a type 2 SOT which will let you mfr firearms and suppressors and transfer. If you get the type 1 ffl all you can do is get the class 3 sot which can only transfer nfa items. Changing ffl types later is a pain so get the type 07 to start with if you ever think you may serialize any firearm or suppressor. The SOT is where the money is

If you're anything more than a "parts changer", don't forget to register with the DDTC,,,,,,, to the tune of $2250 yearly fee! The hope is, common sporting arms will be removed from the USML and transferred to the Dept. of Commerce. But, as of today, it is 'in progress', not completed.

Ditto above. I've had an 07 for four years, sending in for my 02 SOT to be able to sell suppressors.

Your local ATF field office will be concerned with (and will check for) business license, proper zoning/approvals (a big deal, if you do not plan to have an outside shop and conduct business from your home), and that you are operating a for-real, for-profit business.

Approval for those guys getting an FFL just to be able to buy their own firearms and parts at a discount ain't going to happen.
