what distance to tune a tuner brake in on a 284 shehane.

One of my friends wanted me to ask the forum at what distance should he tune the ras tuner brake he has on his 284 shehane in at? 100, 200, 300 yards? He shoots mostly 1k with it but occasionally shorter in. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Matt

If it was me, I'd take it off, screw on a Harrell's brake and tune at the distance he wants to shoot at, now the gun is tuned and he doesn't need a tuner brake, he just saved a quarter pound and over $100.

If its a bench gun and capable of very good accuracy, he would probably be better served with 200 or 300 as he will see more in the group spread. At 100yds its probably going to make ragged holes of most loads.

For my heavy 1000 yd rifle I tune my RAS tuner at 200 yd. You want to pick a day with as little wind and mirage as possible to get optimum results. These tuners work great. Even Alex knows, he has been beat by them on many occasions. Eric

Hi Eric,
I have been beat by lots of shooters, but never a tuner. ;D

If you are careful in tuning the tuner, you should tune at the range you will be shooting. The ideal tune is a function of the distance. Tuning at 300 yds will work, but you are losing one of the best features of a tuner!

Alex, I just assumed it had to be the tuner because I know I can't shoot as well as you. You are one of the best shooters I have ever shot next to. Back to the thread. We have shot thousands of rounds testing our RAS tuners and have not found that it it is nessisary to shoot at the yardage you are compeating in. When I tried to tune at a thousand I found I had to many veriables. Two hundred or three hundred always worked well for me. Eric

I tune my tuners at 100 yards. If the gun is shooting small groups at 100 yards with low ES, it will do so at long range.

I agree about too many variables at long range.

I always shoot 100 YD when tuning. I like to do my tuning in mild winds that I normally shoot in.
I tried 200 and 300 .Many of the time I got a false positive reading from the mirage . I also know
A .250 tune at 100 yds will give me 1.500 at 600 and 2.50 at 1000. Larry
