What cheap material to fill a shooting bag with ?

Stay away from beans, rice, and bird seed if you keep your bags in the garage. I have seen guys do this and the mice eat a hole in their bags.

Whatever you choose, consider making a makeshift bag using a hand-towel. Wrap the fill medium in the towel and try it out at the range. If you like the result, then use it to fill your actual rear bag. For instance, take a 2-3 lb. bag of rice or beans and wrap them in the hand towel (rice/beans still in original package/bag). Use that at the range and see how you like the weight and molding capability.

Thanks again for good info. Going to try pinto beans first. Leave in original Package and then wrap 1 time in tape. Then if that don’t work maybe lizard rock or aquarium rock. Marty

Steel cut oats. My wife is the bag filler and we were trying everything when she got the oats idea. She uses steel cut oats from the local Amish store at Stringtown. The stuff in the grocery store is a little different and doesn't work as well in a squeeze bag.

Don't use seed or food products. Look for plastic beads on e-bay. Buy the weight that sinks in water. Make nice portable bags but nothing beats playground sand at HD or Lowes.

What cheap LIGHT WEIGHT material to fill rear shooting bench bag with ? Thought about these plastic airsoft BB’s but they are kind of expensive. Lead and sand getting to hard to
Pick up for me after 2 torn rotator cuff surgeries. Thanks. Marty

To fill your shooting bag with a great lightweight bag fill, check out SpexLite Shooting Bag Fills. These fills are Made in America, extremely lightweight, don’t absorb any meaningful moisture, won't grow mold, expand or solidify if wet, and are made on purpose to be the best shooting bag fill products. Best of luck to you, we hope your rotator cuff has healed nicely, and please write to us at info@spexlite.com if we can answer any questions.

Anything organic (beans, seeds, flax, rice, etc,,,) can get wet and mold. I tried the Kitty Litter and it turned into powder that would work it's way out of the bag and become dust. Old corn cob media isn't bad but if I was going to make some new ones I think I'd go with the plastic beads.
