Hello all,

I have a M24 barrel chambered in 243win. I had the action rebarreled a couple years ago because I got bored with it. If I found another action what calibers could the barrel be rechambered for? There seems to be plenty of barrel shank there to cut into, but I haven't no idea really.

Thanks,
Matt

Why?
No practical difference between 6 Creed and the .243, it's like the .260 vs the 6.5 Creed.
What would you expect it to do, that you can't do with the .243?

I've heard of "doesn't meet the application anymore", but "bored"?

6-06 might not be so boring.

what twist is it? if youve got enough shank you could make it into a 6br or bra ect. i would stick with a 308 size base on a 6mm but there are people out there who would chamber a 6 with a magnum case. depends on your action. or you could make it a 6x45 if your action is 223 size. possibilities endless

Be brave and go with the 6mm Mach IV.
7 Rem mag necked down to 6mm.
It'll probably go 600 rounds before it gives up the ghost.

Or a 6 BR for the easy button.

Barrel re chambers are not as simple as you may imagine unless they were never fired. Here is an example of bore erosion in terms of bore dia.

Bore dia at the muzzle, and high quality barrels usually have the same bore dia, or very, very close to it

Now look at the bore dia increases in front of the throat

There is also the issue of how straight the first chamber was cut in relation to bore line.

So, ask your gunsmith if he has a graduated set of reamer pilots or does he just use what ever reamer pilot that is on the reamer. If he taper bores, he may not even use a reamer pilot, but it is good to know how much needs cutting off. A reamer pilot flopping around like an out of balance ceiling fan is NOT a good thing.

If that barrel shoots well, --- don't mess with it. 243 Win. is one of those cartridges everybody should be born with. jd
.243 is great for foxes.alot of people shoot deer with it aswell.i have done myself in the past.it is also called a dog gun because that's all the meat is good for in some peoples opinion.
