What bullet for a 1:9 twist 243 AI

What bullet would you recommend for a 1:9 twist barrel 28" long in a 243 Ackley near sea level at 300-600 yards? If I set the barrel back and rechamber to a 6-6.5x47, would that recommendation change? Thanks.

BIB 95 and Berger 95 are designed to stabilize in a 1:9". The Berger has a VERY short bearing surface so you'll probably have to hang the bullet WAY out there.

I would try the Berger 105 match,non-VLD) bullets and see if they stabilize. I think with an Ackley you can push 'em fast enough that they will. Then you might try some Scenar 105s to see if they stablize. I've seen them work great in a 1:8.5 BRX.

If you're looking for a Varmint bullet, the Hornady 87gr V-Max is a good place to start. Sort them for base to ogive AND shank diameter.

The Hornady 105 A-Max will work just fine, although it may be a lot more bullet than is necessary at the distances you've posted.

The 90 BT & 88 gr Berger's are very good bullets. The 88gr holds the IBS 600yd LG record 1.070"? You can shoot most 105 to 107's, The Berger 105 may not. I would give all a try.

i shoot the 95 gr in my .243 ai with a 27 " tube they work very well try cci br4 primers lapua brass and around 46 gr of h4831 or reloader 22,which there is none of in the uk) you should get arond 3200 fps which would make a goor 600 yrd load

Tom, what are you using the rifle for, bullet selection may be different for targets Vs. Varmints?

I agree with billy, 105 A-Max work great. I shoot them on a 1 9 1/4 twist, pushing them 3150 on a 243 win.
