What bullet are you shooting in 30BR

I have some bullets that you rarely see or hear about anyone using. Dave Thomas's 108's. Those thing shot real well. Dave, KL Miller, Herbie and Kim Llewellyn & Dean Breeden shot a lot of them and won a ton of matches with them. Berger 110's. Some shooter have told me the 110's had it all over the 115's. Kenny Livengoods 110's, 118's and 118.4's. Dave Thomas's 30 cal 125 Boattails. Dave Thomas's 114.5 grain FB . Jim Saubier's 112 & 116.7 FB Match. Conley 116's. Fowler 117 gr 7 ogive. Brady Knights 112 & 117's. I know Dave, Fowler and Brady are no longer with us unfortunately.

For years I shot 112 BIB’s and Bart’s.

Now I make my own. I’ll let you know after the first match after this Covid-19 thing passes.

they shoot quite well in practice.

Im still working on the pile of bib and knights since i havent shot the 30 in many years. Im reviving it as we speak and gonna need more bullets soon

Wondering what is being used in competition
7,8,9,10 ogive

Wondering if there is one that comes to the top
I find the 7 or 8 ogive bullets easier to tune and keep in tune than 9 or 10. I'm using them in UBR matches which is much more difficult than the VFS target. I run low 1's in order to stay up with the 6PPC guys in UBR. But on those 10 mph plus days they can't keep up with me! We shoot only 100 yard by the way.

I shot some of Eddie Harren's 109 7 ogive at the last winter league match & they shot real well. Not sure if he sells 'em or not. He gave 100 for me to try a while back.

Also don't forget the BIB 118-10, great bullet.
It's certainly worth trying but I've never had much luck with 10 ogive bullets. Had one bbl that would only shoot about 1/2" groups with them. Ultimately, I think the 7-9 ogive bullets are a safe bet and are easy to tune. I've kinda been all over the bc chase. No other reason to shoot the 10's IMO and chasing bc is basically an empty rabbit hole unless your gun happens to really like that particular bullet. JMO, but I don't think the pro's outweigh the cons.

Hmmmm, I hear this regularly.o_O Thirty Cal. Ten ogive remain my number 1 selling bullet, & have been used to win three of the last four NBRSA VfS Nationals, and most of the yardages. A barrel which will not shoot them at a competitive level - BR level - is likely the proverbial tomato stake.

Last last spring, albeit the previous record was shot using BIB 112gr seven ogive bullets, by Harvey Uttinger, 2018 NBRSA VfS Champion, Dean Walther, employed the BIB 118gr 10 ogive to eclipse Harvey's record, & establish the current NBRSA Grand Aggregate record (500-40X) . . .

I've had a few 30x44, 30x47, 30BR, 300WSM, 300IdiotMag barrels - not a single one which would not shoot the ten ogive bullets competitively.:D "In the beginning" of the 30BR craze, Joe Entriken, Henry Rivers, and Ronnie Long stood the, "point-blank" score shooting world on it's head using BIB ten ogive bullets.;) I will agree, BC be damned - it's all about precision.;)RG

No intent to badmouth your bullets Randy, as I know you make great bullets. I'm surprised you haven't seen it more often though, as I've run into it more than once. Simply change to a different bullet shape and the barrels started winning. Occasionally, I find a given barrel just won't shoot a particular bullet. I don't think that speaks to the quality of either the bullet or the barrel in every case.
