target scoring

A friend and I attended a small match over the weekend. We shoot f-class. We were a little confused with the scoring system as they used the scoring system "B" which has the scores 7,8,9,10 across the bottom instead of X,10,9 on the bottom. My question is why are there two systems and which one is more likely to be used in the future? Do I need to memorize both? Thanks.

As of now, either system can be used at the discretion of the match director as per NRA Highpower rule 14.18. Scoring system 'B' is the one most likely to be used exclusively in the future.

The reason (I believe) That "B" is being used, It keeps the person scoring from reaching up as high on the target.

That is correct. Some berms are not as high as others and reaching to the top of a target leaves the pullers arm and hand exposed to the firing line. That's why "B" will be the preferred and only scoring system in the near future.
