What bug spray do you use?

As far as mosquito repellant. Man I put on 100% deet today and the darn mosquitoes ate me alive. Some other type of bugs were there also not biting but flying in my face, eyes and mouth and im not a mouth breather lol. Im not sure if there is something ya'll do different or if there is a secret recipe but im all ears. I am in Oklahoma by the way and we have had a lot of rainfall lately.

Another trick if you plan on being in one central location for a somewhat long period of time is to get a large piece of dry ice and put it in a Styrofoam container with the lid off. The C02 will draw them to it. Be sure and sit it 50 yards away from you. I saw a mosquito trap made one time on YouTube that used this, it also had a mosquito net over it with a small hole they would fly into and drown in a bowl or water with dish soap added to it. But basically they are attracted to the smell of carbon dioxide.

Howdy !

Whatever you get, I recommend you avoid the stuff Uncle Sugar used to issue you.
That stuff was / had in it " DEET " ... which can screw you up ! Was it " Permethane " ??

Thermacell for mosquitos. But, believe it or not, Bullfrog sun screen will keep the gnats at bay. I use in the mosquito state of SC during the season.

We are also looking for a repellent. The bugs and flies of all types are the worst I have ever seen here in Eastern Pa. Last week returning late eastbound on route 80 from a testing session at Williamsport 1000 the insects were so bad I had to clean off the windshield to drive. My brother-in-law works heavy construction near 80 and the small black flies will consume you. They could not work. The owner of the firm purchased every type repellent with no success and they finally had to wear long pants, shirt, gloves and headnets to continue operating.

357 mag was on the money..permethrin..
works great on everything...it is one of the things used to pre treat and re treat battle uniforms in the military...also right that it can be hazardous to you health. if you go that route please be careful. stuff works great but....
cheers

The "Bug shirt". When they're out, this keeps them off. Even black flies. No deet or bad skin problems. Works as far north as Goose Bay, labrador.

I bought a Thermacell last year and it works great but I get tired of refilling it. We also use an essential oil bled from Do Terra called Terra Shield, it seems to work well and doesn't have any deet. Yesterday we were shooting in a new place and forgot to bring any repellant and it was REALLY buggy. All we had was an aerosol bottle of sunscreen. I don't know what brand it was other than it was a long, skinny, orange bottle. We sprayed it all over and it worked as well as any repellant I've ever tried.

Another vote for permethrin. You can treat your clothes with it and it will supposedly last through 6 launderings. They also use it as a "spot on" for dogs.

Thermacell has worked great for me.
I have seen them around stores but never paid attention because most of the devices I've seen are either gimmicks, expensive to use, or often both.

After seeing the comments here, I did a check on the interweb and don't see any actual in depth reviews, where things have been really field tested. Just the usual pages where someone says how good it is then links you to some place to buy (which usually means they get a little money for the referral).

From what I can see, this device does work, but has a relatively short duration per "charge" and is somewhat expensive to operate as well. Is it really that much better than one of the better sprays or clothing treatments?
