What brass polish

I tumble my brass and as you know the dust is terrible. What can I add to the media to keep it down. I have heard that paint thinner,mineral spirits and car wax. Please share some of your ideas. Thx and have a nice day

I use Nu-Finish car wax. Works great. Also, you can add a little mineral spirits to keep the dust down.

Hunt up a Ultra Sonic and quit fooling with those dusty old things, and your cases will be as clean on the inside as they are on the outside, and you can breath easy.....

Mineral spirits or paint thinner helps some. Others stick an old dryer sheet or a paper towel in there to help catch some of the loose dust. Using short-grained rice pretty much kills the dust, but if you use it too long a white residue does begin to build up on the inside of the case. Some of the tumbling media I've used started out too fine... almost half-ways to dust right off the git-go. Great for not getting stuck in flash-holes, terrible for dust factor. Dillon Rapid Polish does a pretty good job of shinin' up the cases.

A shop-vac w/ a hose positioned to suck up the airborne dust can eliminate a lot of the nuisance factor, or a cheap box-fan w/ a furnace filter taped to it positioned to suck the dust away from you when you dump the tumbler.

Not all tumbling media's are created equal. Some are definately better than others. I personally have settled on Vibrashine's treated, and un-treated corn cob media. Dust is not a problem with this product. I'd highly recommend it. I just throw them in the Lyman overnight and they are good to go the next day.

I've looked at the Ultra sonic system and personally I just don't want to fool with all that crap! It hasn't been proven to me that squeaky clean cases on the inside makes any difference what-so-ever.

Exposure to ammonia makes brass brittle, and Brasso contains ammonia; it should never be used to clean cartridge brass unless you're REALLY fond of gas in your face.

I usually put my brass in the vibrater for a couple minutes, than using a water bottle with a spray nozzle, "spritz" your media.
I think it helps rejuvenate your treated media, plus it eliminates all of the dust.

The ammonia in the Brasso is what will cause it to break down a case.
One of these days it will back fire on those that insist on using it.....
The more that case is worked the better the chances it will mess your face up one of these days...
Tons of stuff will clean up a case, why take a chance on using Brasso...
Used a lot of in in the USMC back when, but never on a cartridge case...

Brasso is a definate no no. You can tempt fate but sooner or later if it dont catch you it will get the next poor guy that tries it.

I had no luck using a tumbler. It would get the body of the case clean, but not around the neck area. I now use blitz cloth that you can buy at Army-Navy stores. It works great. Wipes powder residue right off. It works better if you wipe them down right after you shoot.
Another product that works about the same is, never-dull. You can get at Walmart. Just my 2 cents.

Hi everyone,

Just unpacked my reloading gear. Had lots of brass to clean so I used my Thumler Ultravibe 18 with walnut media. After 3-4 hrs of tumbling, I sifted the cases and found a black deposit on the cases and when I emptied the tumbler, the same deposit on the walls of the bowl. I scoured the bowl clean, added some new media to the older mix and tumbled again. Same result. The stuff does come off after some heavy-duty rubbing. What gives? I like the capacity of the bowl, so ultrasonics is not a consideration at this time. Should I change to a different media? Help. I wanna shoot !!

Soak your cases for a few minutes in KABOOM,household cleaner). This will remove the stuborn powder stains, and it reduces tumbling time dramatically. Rinse, and I mean thoroughly rise in hot water, then put them on a cookie sheet and into the oven on low heat to dry. The liquid polish is IOSSO. I thought Dillon was good, but I think this is even better. Can you say BRILLANT cases?? Larry in western Ky.
