Imperial sizing wax

Jimbo88m- how do you apply the Imperial paste to a pad?
sounds like a quicker and more uniform way than using my fingers.

Lynn- could you give a quick blurb about using dies without wax? does the die need to be specially made for this technique?

thanks.

I rub four of my fingers briefly in the wax, then run them on the pad. At this point there is wax on both the pad and my fingers. I roll several cases with the "waxed" hand. After going through 20 or so cases, if I need a little more I just put a little more on my fingers.

It took me a few tries to perfect the process. Defiantly much faster and easier then applying the wax to each case individually.

I used to use Imperial, switched to the Hornady Unique and have never looked back! I like it a whole lot better, not as thick & whole lot easier to get off the cases.

When your forming wildcat brass with the Skip Otto dies it looks like a piece of 7/8 inch running thread. You then stack buttons in the die two at a time. Each button and they are all numbered sizes the brass down a little at a time.If your really shortening up the length the two buttons will give you two different sizes at the same time.
Most wildcats don't require much work to form and you can buy a $400 lathe at a hobby shop and make your own buttons for dirt cheap.
The only thing you can't do is put the sharp shoulders into your brass. You need to fireform for that.
I will post you a picture of my latest reamer so look very carefully at the shoulder.

Edit: Thanks to John Crawford for re-sizing my photo.
In the photo hopefully you can see the shoulder is not flat like on a typical case.It is round and protrudes forward. What you do with a case like that is size your brass down until it will just close in the chamber then expand the shoulder forward by using Cream Of Wheat breakfast cereal on top of 20 grains of red dot.The red-dot forces the cream of wheat forward in all directions and instantly you have round shoulders or whatever your after.
Naturaly if your brass is too thick from the shortening process you would need to thin it out especially in the neck area.
Some guys who really shorten up the cases will cut the whole shoulder area off first and pre-thin there brass before shaping it.

I just re-read my reply and it looks a little goofy in one spot.I said you will get two size cases and I should have said if you size the brass alot you will get two different neck sizes. The buttons are stacked one on top of the other and the top button is always smaller than the bottom button.
I will post a picture because this explanation also sounds bad.
