What brass and powder is best for the 222remington

Use mine on PD and it is superb with 50 gr speer TNT and ramshot exterminator. Have owned a 222 since 1965, nothing like it for ease of loading, recoil and general accuracy. Shoot one long enuff and you can go 300 yes plus with good accuracy, just stick with a 50,52 gr. flat base.

I have a few .222's and all of them like 23 grains of Benchmark, 40 grain v max with Rem 7.5 primers. Mostly Rem and Win brass.

These are hunting loads and i have no idea on velocities. I do have a 722 222 with a 26" barrel and just got some 52 grain HP's that i am going to try. Seems like 222 is one of the most generous caliber for finding good loads.

So far I've tested just about every known powder that's suppose work in a 222 and of them all VV133 and Benchmark has been the most accurate from my rifle so far. I have some loads ready of LT32 but weathers not cooperating too well here.

I have loaded for the 222 for many years now as it was the first cartridge I fell for. I tried all the "go to" powders and none really showed any promise. Tried N133 and have never looked elsewhere.

I'm a new 222 convert, looking mainly for varmints (rabbits, jack rabbits, pest birds etc) but with a fallow deer or two from time at ranges limited to 150 yards. I am looking at Barnes TSX FB bullets for the improved penetration but really want to avoid multiple powders (eg one for varmints and another for medium game). Can someone recommend a load range (min to suggested max) for this projectile with H4198?
Rifle is CZ 574 Ebony Edition, brand new. 1:14 twist
Currently shooting sub 0.5" 3 round groups @ 100 yards with Sierra 50 Gr MatchKing HPBT's.

Many thanks
Ian

My experience has been that almost any powder you can stuff into a .222 case and almost any 35 ~ 55 grain bullet will shoot well.
My best has been H322 with 52 grain Sierra or Berger bullets and the VERY best has been 23.3 gr of VV N133 behind a
Berger 55 grain match bullet loaded .008" from the lands. CCi primers and Lapua brass with all of my loads.
Please note that my barrel is a 1 : 12 twist.

4198 has always been a go to powder--40 years ago. There are better powders now. I use Lt-32, which is about the same as H322. It is hard to not find a good combination for this wonderful cartridge!

I shoot 20.5 grains of H4198 with a 7 1/2 primer and a 50 grain V/Z max .020 off with WW brass into 1/2" groups with a L461 varmint rifle. H4198 may be old, but it works very well. I guess, so am I, old that is, very well, depends on the day.

One of the funnest cartridges out there and one of the least picky. You can see from the variety of recipes offered that it shoots a lot powder and bullet combos Well.

N133, H322, H4198 are my favorites, varget evens works well. I use mostly 50gr polymer tips but use others if it’s purpose specific.

My brother in law had some beginners luck this Thanksgiving weekend. He wanted to call in a bobcat and we scored a bobcat and two yotes. I was calling and he was the shooter using a old BDL .222. 50 gr Blitzking and 23grs of H322 of mine. I'm not sure he realizes his good luck.:)

I was popping PDogs at 325yds on a very regular basis with the 50 grain VMax boat tail bullet this summer.

MY LOAD IS SIMPLE 22.2GRS H-322 WITH 205M 52GR BERGERS MAKES SOME PRETTY BUGHOLES WITH MY LITTLE 40X :D:D:D

Thats the truth. I've been shooting mid-expert level in mid range F-class with the 222. I've had great luck with the Berger 52 FB match over RL10X and a 205M primer.

I even experimented with LC brass. Ran it through a file trim die first. If you want a lot of cheep brass for prairie dogs, it worked. A lot of work, but guess I had a lot of time.
