What Barrel Vice and Action Wrench to buy?

I am looking for a barrel vice and action wrench for my Remington 700. I am considering the Great Scott vice, but was wondering what most use for an action wrench. I looked at the Holland rear entry wrench, but I think it could present some issues being that the energy is applied so far from where the tool contacts the action. I have also looked at the basic Wheeler action wrench.

What would you recommend?

As far as a rear entry wrench you can’t beat the ones F biceguel sells on here occasionally, I believe Kelblys sells them also. As far as vises go I have one from Sinclair, but the one from Bald Eagle is very nice.

If your talking about taking an original barrel off of a 700 action, your going to need a lot more than the vise that we take barrels off off custom actions with!
Your also going to need a large action wrench like Brownells sells and you will still struggle to get it off.

Kelbly's will refer you to PMA Tool. I have a PMA, and it works great.

On a 700, the PMA vice won't slip (provided you tighten it adequately) under the torque which will need to be applied to break the barrel loose. You'll need a four foot section of pipe as a helper on the 700 action.

PaPa thanks for considering my vise for separating
a 700. It is a fantastic piece of equipment. Unfortunately,
my machine shop has dropped the ball on my supply.
I dont know when I'm going to receive my next shipment.

I am unfamiliar with the rear action wrenches. It was recommended with the Great Scott vice. They seem less robust than a traditional action wrench. Looking for guidance here on the wrenches.

Bought mine from R W Hart or Hart barrels...….not sure, been a while, not expensive, rear entry, flat steel bolt race way dimension bent to 90 degrees, works fine.

Just purchased a rear entry action wrench from pbike257. It’s very well constructed and the one I got will do quite a few different actions to boot. I highly recommend it.

I learned that you need a four bolt vise after struggling with a two bolt.
I use both the rear action and the Wheeler wrenches. I’ve pulled Remington factory guns apart with the rear entry wrench and it worked great. The toughest barrel I ever pulled was a factory Tikka. I needed the Wheeler wrench and both of my barrel vises for that one!
