What are you working on this winter?

Gun store, reloading supplies, sporting goods. Please don't offer advice, just shop local. Thanks.
No sir I do not have advice. I've tried to shop local on building my house and most of it has come from the local lumber yard as opposed to the big box building stores.

My winter project was buying a used rifle to upgrade my 600 yard game.
Bat B with RBLP, drop port, 6 BRA, Brux barrel, Wheeler LRB stock.
I'm going to use a Wilson seater, so purchased a K&M arbor press for that.
Picked up Berger 108s, and I was able to buy a few hundred Vapor Trail 103s with the rifle, so I can compare them.
Need the snow to go away to hit the range.
Gonna be a nice upgrade from the 2 Savages I've been shooting for the last 15 years.

Fair amount of sorting done but with the mild winter I’ve been breaking in and testing a new barrel. In fact I just got home from the range an hour ago. I shot this ladder at 1K this afternoon. Dave.

Wow very nice Dave’
Can only speak for myself but that 31.0 looks pretty darn flat right there.

My new project / wildcat is a 30×33 kurz. It is starting to come together. 18twist rock creek. Getting custom reamer made. Custom dies whidon. Same case capacity as 30ppc but shorter and fatter case. Like a shortened 30br.

Piecing together my new FClass rest, made the base yesterday.
Long adjustment screws and feet today.

Next step will be to test 31.04 gr. and 30.60 gr., another promising node, with 5 shot groups and multiple seating depths. At that point I should be pretty close to a load with this Roy Hunter bullet. Then if I’m not happy, I’ll see if it likes another bullet better.

Dave.

What is your FPS and SD ?

Finally at my old age getting a 30.06 built. Never really owned one. Well, I had one for about 2 days that I got at a divorce sale but, I sold it right away. But, the one coming will have to be a keeper.

Hope you’re having a good winter Mississippi. I don’t even look at velocity or SD’s anymore until the load is developed. I would guess around 3,000 fps and my SD’s are usually single digits.

Dave.
What winter ? We have no winters in Mississippi just rain and lots of it. Doing great going to break in 3 Dasher barrels and two 300 WSM barrels. Hope they tune so I can compete with you. Will be trying the little Hunter bullets and maybe a few Bart's are is it Farts.

Well I ain't weighing primers that's for sure!
This 70 double cab is my next project just delivered today.View attachment 1145329followed up with my wifes new ride a 75 Brazilian 15 window View attachment 1145330
I'm sure there will be some gun stocks sprinkled in between.

Well; not to much to do in Idaho in the winter SO I have moved to projects I can do in my warmish reloading room.Trying to get ready for 2020 Rifle Matches as the weather is warming up Now v17 deg, but looking to a toasty 38 deg later today..

Here are a few projects I will be working on INSIDE this winter.
  • Doing neck clean-up on all brass for my Competition rifles. RE Measure and RE Turn all cases For my 223,6 PPC,6 BR,6 Dasher, 6x45 & 30 BR. using my NEW Digital Case neck Micrometer.
  • Anneal,Re Trim to length & Re fill all empty cases With Appropriate Powder,Primer & bullet Then I can get ready for the 2020 matches with out any last minute reloading.
  • Bought 2 new Front rests and 2 new Edgwood bags.Filled the bags with heavy sand and set up the new rests so as to get them ready for the shooting season.Rest #1 is the Cowan rest with the new Edgwood Front bag ,#2 is a Bald Eagle rest with a Shadetree joy stick and a new Edgwood front bag.Filled the bags with heavy sand and got them ready to take to the range.
  • Switch scopes around on 2 rifles to better match the match schedule ,so I will have to remount and re-sight in the 2 scope changes to the rifle, just have to get to the range.
  • Went to the range yesterday and it was truly a mess SNOW all over, had to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to get back to the range, so I hope it isn't to much longer before I can get up there to test all my rifles.
  • Bought a new Edgwood Tracker Rear Bag so will try it out to see if it fits my style of shooting any better than the other 6 bags on hand now?
  • Had to buy a New scale as my Sartorius scale with V3 upgrade took a dump. I sent the scale in to be repaired BUT they wanted $2003 To fix it, I said what the heck is going on I can buy a new Sartorius scale for Around $1200.00, SO I said send it back AND bought a NEW RCBS Match Master scale as Sartorius told me if I were to add the V3 powder system it will VOID my warranty .
  • Next on the project list was to upgrade my bullet sorting method So I got the SortEez Digital bullet sorting system,Seems to work ?
  • Well off to another obsessive reloading anomaly.Yep I got a Bullet seating force indicator to see if It mat make any difference .I will sort my rounds by bullet seating force to see if it makes any difference in group sizes rather than sorting Case base to ogive.
  • Now to catch up on my Barrel Shades,Yep 7 new carbon fiber shades ordered and installed .
  • Bought a New C21 Power Neck Turning Lathe and & 7 Neck turners so I can have a separate neck turner (set up for each caliber) and I will NOT have to adjust a neck turner for each caliber and case trim length,This SEEMS to be a logical and more accurate BUT a more costly way to go about re Turning the cases.A little anal BUT its winter in Idaho And as I am retired I don't have much to do ,so off to the reloading Room I go!
  • That's enough of my winning for now BUT just to let you know I have 3 or 4 more rifle room project to follow up on.
  • See ya all soon have a great year and shoot straight!

So I'm curious about sorting loaded rounds by seating force vs cbto.
No trying to make you pull your hair out or frustrate you but.....
What if you sorted by seating force then cbto to remove any outliers?

Frankenstein is off to the strippers!!!

Try to shoot year round. Winter sees more clays shooting than any thing else. Last year went through all my rifles: routine maintenance, hand loading, along with bedding checks and rework. This year, with less to do in those areas I bought and prepped new brass and did all the pre loading prep work on them. As a retired old fool, I have plenty of time to spend in my basement reloading room. Oh wait, there a still plenty of coyotes to chase. Have a great winter.

Seems to me that sorting CBTO THEN By force indicator is 1/2 redundant which indicator do you go with when sorting?
I will try shooting groups at my next match and then should have a better understanding which sorting method will work better for me.
Next match is in April as I will be going in for nasal surgery ,so will be down for the scheduled match.

If I'm not shooting a custom, I sort BBTO into .001 groups giving me consistent CBTO.
I've noticed a variation of .0005- .001on loaded rounds which is more than sufficient for my needs as a casual shooter.
I dont weight sort any components except powder on a 10 10.
Prayers for you and your surgical team for a successful outcome.

Just Finished up this 17 Lb. Light-Class “wind-tamer”
Switch barrel rig on a BAT Model M action. -calibers are 338 Lapua Imp. (2 barrels - both threaded for the brake) and 300 Norma Mag. Imp. (3 barrels) - Stock is a ST1000F, Bix Trigger, NightForce straight 42x cross-hair with dot.
Plan is to see if we can get 250 gr. 338 Berger OTM match bullets to shoot in the Lapua Imp. And 230 gr. Hybrids to shoot in the Norma Imp.
She weighs in at 16.9 with her fatest barrel.

LA50Shooter, how do you like the IOR on the rig in the black stock? Is that the Recon? I’m considering getting one.
