What are the reasons for using xp-100 actions in rifles?

i just ran across a 6BR xp-100 in a benchrest stock at a local show. are there technical advantages to using the xp receiver??

Single shot action. From Remington in their better days.
At that time not many action makers making a single shot

The single shot XP-100 action is viewed by some as essentially a short 40XBR action(a rigid action due to no magazine cutout). The rigidity of a single shot 40XBR action is over four times that of a 700 repeater.

Im building a rifle on one right now. Its a strong action. Even for short magnum cases. Mainly cuz I got one. If not and I had the money Id buy a custom, but my trued xp action shoots just as good as a custom.

Sent mine out to be rebarreled and have the action touched up. Didn't touch the action because it was "too good" to mess with.:D:cool:

At one time you could buy an XP for very little. Who would want a bolt action pistol? And what are ya gonna do with it and the little pip squeak cartridge?

If I had only known about 10 years sooner...... Dunno how many I passed up for $100-200 years ago.

Just like a lot of things, no one wanted one when they made them. Quit making them and every other person wants one.

Besides that little pip squeak cartridge, they were offered in 7BR, which made a fine paring for IHMSA Unlimited competition; still have mine. It was a bit humorous when they brought out the 7BR XP100, as no one made brass for it; I still have the forming dies and the (now many times shot) brass I formed with them before unfired brass became available. Besides 200 meter IHMSA rams, we have taken deer with it, no problem.

I know all about that. Still have my 7BR form dies and a lot of others. I was XP poor for a while, got it narrowed down to just 8 complete pistols now and working on a rifle.
I have stretched the legs on my 7IHMSA XP to 500 meters. There are those about that have run their rigs out to a mile.

My comments were more how most folks looked upon them.

Missed out on buying a factory X-p pistol, but always wanted one. A couple of years ago, happened to find a used one in 6ppc. Bought and have had plenty of fun with it. I won't win any matches with it, even against similar pistols, but like any pistol, gun handling is a priority. Maybe a little bit of that attention to detail has/will bleed over to my rifle shooting.

Had issues with my shoulder. The "reach" with the LER scope was killing me. Converted my XP action into a rifle. Love it!!

Got back into the "pistol" thing with a Savage left hand repeater action fitted with a single shot adaptor. I also use that action for BR shooting by fitting it into a right hand thumb hole rifle stock. Thinking about picking up another XP just for the fun of it.
Nothing better than seeing the look :cool: on faces when you ring steel out to 200+ yards with a SP XP 100, no matter what caliber it is.:D And, see it out shoot rifles.

Forget who is making the clone action. I have seen folks advised to go to that as it is all cleaned up square and true, price was close to the same or even cheaper than a used one that needed cleaned up.

I have owned a number of XP-100s, but none converted into a rifle. I was also wondering about that, but I am looking for another XP-100 pistol if any of your guys have one for sale.

Bob

When converting XP's to a rifle was in its prime there were three major reasons. First, and probably foremost, they were cheap. You could buy all you could stand for about $100 per copy. Second was the single shot aspect of them. And lastly they were readily available.

Had an early XP100 221 fireball. The trigger was strange. Had a transfer bar with a weight attachment. Shot ok with a 4x scope. 1964.

Then the T/C Contender came out around 1968. Didnt need the fireball then.

Both long gone now. The good old days.

I just bought one. It has a left handed center grip stock in what looks to be tiger maple. Going to go with a rear grip or convert to a rifle so as soon as I get some pics, it'll be for sale in the classifieds.

They made some repeaters. Also remember, if converted to a rifle, they cannot be legally be returned to pistol configuration.
