What action? What stock? Br stock? Remage? Rem 700? Ptg? Whats a good way to set up a 20 vartarg?

I see myself shooting animals with it more than targets, still will target shoot though...

Mine is a CZ 527 American that started life as a .221 F.B.. Put a #2 taper 1:12 twist Douglas select stainless barrel on it and a maple stock. Looks great, shoots great and is easy to tote on any varmint hunt. The single set trigger is sweet also. Just my take on building a VT to hunt with.

For bench use if you are shooting volume varmints you will want some rake on the bottom of the rear stock in order to rapidly adjust your POI elevation by sliding the rifle back n forth on rear bag. Thumbhole stocks are a bit more comfortable than conventional stocks for long shooting sessions. I prefer single shot for bench use and I the Remage is great for cheap and easy barrel changes.

And the 20VT is FANTASTIC but don't go with the common reamer that most barrel makers have on the shelf which is the old Todd Kindler/ PTG design set up for Remington FB brass. The freebore is too deep (.053), the diameter of the base too narrow and neck diameter (.232) will require neck turning of Lapua brass. Talk to Dave Kiff at PTG about his new recommendations.

Whatever action that has a .223 bolt face and you just wanna shoot single shot will work, Ratbuster is right about the reamer go zero freebore and at lest .233 nk. if you wanna shoot lapua brass.

Pierce makes a nice cone bolt .223 action, single shot or repeater. Easy feeding with the short cartridges like the Fireballs and the Vartarg.

Mine started life as a 204 Ruger, CZ 527 mag fed. Factory stock is decent, Factory trigger is
decent. I took the set out of mine and resprung it. For doggin I always single feed it, The VarTarg
feeds through the mags ok too. Hart Barrel, Suppressed of course! Absolutely love it for doggin.
Barrel doesn't get hot, super accurate.

Yes, I did finish.
I ended up snagging a older Stiller single shot tac 30 action, 20-221AI JGS reamer has a no turn neck, Muller Works M24 contour 1-8” twist barrel finished at 27”.
Decided on using the 39BK (since I have 1500) jump .005, and AA2200 powder, CCI primer .
It is very accurate at 300yds, and shot several varmints this past year with it.
I gave it to my son for Xmas last year, he’s had a ball.
Up on going with me to the “ local “ club match “ he wanted to bring it to shoot at 600yds..Sat. practice, so I packed it.. not thinking he could get to it moa wise, I dialed it, and he put 4 on the target!! After seeing that he finished off the other 45 .. over the day.
It’ll also shoot the 55gr. Berger. I found a load, but don’t have any empty brass to load, cause my son has done loaded it all back up w/ 39gr.
I liked it so much I built me a 20BRAI on my Borden BRM..

Really opens the eyes. There are a bunch of folks who don't think the 55gn class 22s, much less the 40gn 20s, have the legs to reach out that far but that's a perfectly good group for hunting!

Old post but I'd rather have a CZ527 if a repeater, or a single shot having a coned bolt and breech.

My M700 in 20-221AI was a PITA to load off the top of the follower, it'd hit the face of the barrel so I would have to push the round it the chamber with my pinky.
