What a difference!!!

Not long ago I bought a brick of Norma Tac after reading so many rave reviews. At $5/box I hoped it would be useable for practice. Started it in the 457 and after mutiple efforts I said this stuff sucks. Not Aguila level but close. BUT TODAY I needed to sight in the scope on my MDT/L3i gun. Initially shooting into the dirt so why waste good ammo? Once I though it was close enough I shot Target one vertically. This stuff is amazing in the L3i barrel!!! Gonna buy more!

Anyone else experience a 180 degree difference with the same lot in two guns?

Stock Bergara b-14 loves it for practice likes S-K better for matches. My rpr with a e.r. shaw dosn't like Tac-22 but likes the Aquila

I bought half-case quantities of different lots of TAC 22 when Norma started selling it at bargain pricing a few years ago. Shot it in several custom-barreled Vudoo, Rim-X, CZ457, Sako P94S w/Lilja bbl, and repro Browning-marked 52C sporter with a Krieger bbl, plus a couple of Anschutz 54 sporters and various other bolt & lever-action factory .22s. Some barrels shot pretty well with it, and others had lack-luster accuracy. Got pretty much the same results when I ordered in a few different lots of Norma Match.

Even though it was mediocre in several of my favorite .22s, the price was reasonable, and it was available. But I haven't bought any of either grade of Norma since they raised the prices, even though I expected that to happen. For one thing, it's not as available as it once was. I knew it was re-branded lower grade RWS ammo, but who cares, as long as it shoots ok? There were rumors about Norma starting to make this ammo here in the States, which gave me hope that maybe someday we wouldn't be totally dependent on European-made 22RF ammo. I haven't heard anything recently regarding U.S.-made Norma 22RF, but still like the idea of mid-quality 22RF ammo being made here...

I buy whatever is on sale and the Norma stuff was. It shoots OK in the 52 but nothing to write home about. It shoots really well in a two groove Benchmark barrel I have on a CZ452. WH

We shoot Norma Tac by the case at my club. We bought 3 cases just last year. It shoots as well or better than SK+. Perfect for most practice out to 100 yds. heck, I've even won matches with it in one of my custom CZ's. However, the last I checked, there is no more to be had. Not in quantities anyway. Price has doubled over last years price when you do find some. My usual source told me (last month) that Norma hasn't imported any of it since last year. I'm still sitting on a case and a half but I'm always on the prowl for more.

Natchez had some, maybe still do. They emailed me this last weekend. $5/50 if I remember correctly. Red box lots have not been my favorite.

I have several rifles and usually good ammo shoots well in all of them and bad ammo shoots bad. Never had one that shot mid to high grade ammo poorly and then the same ammo shot well out of something else. Not saying the OP didn't experience this. Just that I haven't experienced it in the 35 years I've been shooting 22 LR rifles semi-seriously

I bought a couple different lot numbers of TAC22 and they both shot really well (again, in a variety of rifles). So when someone posted that a dealer had TAC22 for a great price (less than $5/box) shipped I went ahead and bought a case. That shoots great too. It's not Center-X or Midas+ quality but it does pretty good for the price

Both those vendors mentioned are out of stock today. Same for Norma USA ( Not that I'd buy direct from those bums again) . Still, maybe it's finally trickling in?. That would be nice. We'll likely never see $319/case again but it is what it is. $5/50 box is better than $7.50 for Std+. $5.50 is what I paid at CDVS a while back. Shipping was a killer though. I'm sitting on a case and a half. That will hold me over but i won't be supplying the guys at the club until the drought is over.

Better than std+?

Probably not! That red box crap is on par w/ cci std velocity in my experience. I have 8 or 10 lots of Sk std+ that will all shoot inside tac22 Redbox. Black box shot about an moa, pretty alright.

I didn't say it was better ammo. Just better pricing. That said, our collective experience is that Norma Tac shoots about on par with SK std+ in our practice sessions. ( I.e 3 or 4 in one hole and the other 1 or 2 are fliers) Thats from several cases run through a dozen plus rifles (mostly CZ 457s but a few B14R's and Vudoo's) at the club. CCI std on the other hand is real crap. I won't run it in anything but a revolver.

As the OP I now must revise my findings 100%. Not sure what happened but here are today's results with the stock CZ 457 and Norma Tac. As per usual my initial finding have been overturned. Newbie knows nothing!
