what 6mm to go for

Hi guys im looking to buy a 6 mm rifle. Now I know good old 243 is hard to beat
And offers great brass off the shelf like lapua. Norma. But I would like something different.

I've been looking at all the info on the net about the 6x47 lapua and 6mm Remington. The 6x47one does seam to offer great fps over the 243 with less powder.

And is it a case of just putting 6.5 x47 brass through a 6x47 die? Though I have heard lapua might make 6x47 brass in the future which would be good.

The 6 mm Remington which doesn't seam as popular has alot going for it still looking at reviews. I really fancy this calibre the most to have built but I can only see remmy or Winchester brass for it. So any guys on here got one. How do you find the sunny and remmy brass for 6 mm Remington?

Sorry about the spelling. Im messaging off my phone. And the predictive text on the phone keeps changing the bloody words. And I can't seam to scroll down my post change the miss spelling.

jamie: If you've never had one, consider the 6mmBR. Load it like any other cartridge and have the extreme accuracy that it offers.

Here's one

Thats convenient, I'm looking to sell one ;D
6 x 47, one pass through the sizer, just short of 39g of RL-17, 105-108 projectile and your ready for Tinygroup City. Less finiky than either the 243 or 6mmRem, more efficient and Lapua brass. Whats not to like?

Whats not to like ! The fact is your in usa I bet and im in england ! Bugger.
Nice rifle though what is it a remmy 700?

You mentioned "you're ready to buy" a 6mm. If you can have one built, an easy transition from the .243 is the 6mm SLR. Everything the good ole .243 is with a longer neck and a tad more fps. Makes a wonderful f-class or varmint rig. I use my solely for f-class and with 107 smk's, easly a 1/2 moa to 600 in calm conditions. Lots of other 6mm derivatives to choose from' 6BRX, 6BRDX, 6Dasher to name a few. Good luck with your decision, Eric in DL

Plus 1 on the 6mm SLR, that thing is a hoot... Never seen one that wouldn't shoot really well...
1 trip through the die and your ready to shoot...
Mine shoots the 87 grain Hornadys as well as it shoots the Berger 108'S out of a 8 twist Brux..

yet another + on the 6mm SLR. Finally got to get out and shoot mine on sunday and she really is a nice shooting rifle. It likes the Berger 105vlds with 4350sc so far.

I agree with the 6SLR whats not to love!! You can get great barrel life out of one shooting slow burning powder an still push 107s and 115s to 3000fps with deadly accuracy.

I hated that short necked, barrel burning 243 with a passion for years, and shot a 6mm AI because of it...
Now that I have the 6 SLR the big 6 never see's the light of day, and thats a shame because it shoots really well, but not as good as the 6SLR, and it burns less powder, and the barrel will last a lot longer...

Howdy !

How 'bout some " strange " ?

I shoot a 6mm wildcat, made by running a 6mm Remington reamer in " short ", to obtain a .466" base diameter.
This wildcat, I call " Deep 6 ".

Deep 6 has the same long neck as a 6mm Rem, and same easy-to-form 26* shoulder angle. It is VLD-friendly.

Deep 6 brass is formed by shoving shoulder back on 7X64 Brenneke brass ( Norman, RWS, Speer; Hornady. I use Norma ).
For the brass forming, stock 6.5 X55 Swedish FL die ( Lee ) is used, with its expander ball & mandrel removed to make the die
" open topped ".

Brass to be formed, is sat atop a " perch" made from a stock .308 shellholder, a flathead screw of less than .466" diam; and two jam nuts.
Using my Rockchucker press, the "perch" is put in-place, w/ excess screw threads positioned in the press' ram primer arm slot.

Parent brass sots atop the perch, and press arm operated. As brass is advanced up-into the forming die, excess brass is extruded out top of die. After the case forming step, brass is rough cut-off for length, then detail trimmed to final case oal.

Wildcat brass is inside neck reamed to 6mm, and outside neck turned; to arrive @ final neck wall thickness & diameter desired.
As these things go, that's not a whole lot of " steps "/procedures to have to perform.

Deep 6 has case capacity is the 6XC - 6X47 range.
*** " Deep 6 " brass is very robust, as it is formed from the bottom-portion of the 7 X64 brass. As a result, upper case wall thickness exceeds that of most other 6mm ( wildcat & factory ) cases ***. My Deep 6 brass has lasted for many firings, w/o developing loose primer pockets, split necks; or other defects.

Deep 6 can be formed, loaded, re-loaded; and chambered for..... w/o need to $$$ custom reamers, or custom dies.
My Deep 6 has been a great dual-role' varmint/target cartridge , for me.

What about Whitley's version of the. 243 with 30 degree shoulder. What is the pros and cons compared to 6 SLR ? Just wondering.

The 6mm SLR has a slightly smaller powder capacity and a longer neck than the .243 improved. The .243 improved is just a .243 case blown out to a 30 degree shoulder where the 6mm SLR has the 30 degree shoulder set back by resizing the .243 case. The .243 improved chamber will shoot a .243 factory cartridge where the 6mm SLR won't.

Former Savage Arms engineer Bob Greenleaf, has developed a few wildcats of his own.

One is the " 6BG ", which utilizes .243 Win brass; and a .300 Savage "Go - Gage ".

Lot's of folks have wildcatted .243, to fix the shallow neck angle/lowered barrel life.
