What 600 yard cartridge to rebarrel a 6ppc boltface to?

I have a full custom Nesika 6ppc short range benchrest rifle that I love, but don't use that much as I currently enjoy LR shooting more. I am considering having another barrel spun up, but am a bit limited by that bolt face. I happen to have AR uppers in 6mmAR and 6.5grendel so i'm all set up with dies and brass for those two cartridges so those two would be an easy conversion.
At most I would use it in an informal 600 yard benchrest match, but mostly just trying to shoot small groups at 600 yards.
Would you choose 6mmAR or 6.5grendel for this purpose? Or is there another cartridge that would be worth buying dies and brass for?

Any advice on bullet weights to choose/advice based on experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks in advance.

The 6 Turbo 40, 6 Grinch or since you have it the 6AR. The 6.5 Grendel is a bit small in capacity for a 6.5 the 6's will out perform it.

Using the Grendel parent case... a 224 AR Mag. a/k/a 224 Predator would serve you well.

Simply neck the 6.5 Grendel down to a 6mm, or go with the Grinch. I believe that each have their merit. Possibly it could come down to whether or not you want to do any fire forming.

I believe that there's a thread on this board where someone was shooting one or both of those configurations at 600yd. WD

Someone PM'd me the idea of buying something like Dasher brass that has had the bases turned to fit my boltface. Anyone have experience doing this?

You can turn down the rim of 6BR standard brass also. You have a lot of options if you over think it but case prep is involved to some degree. I would think the 6 Grendel is the easiest but I hydro form my Grinch brass and am more than happy.

6mm ar. I love the Grendel case and use it in the 6 fat rat configuration. You will be splendid with the performance it offers in a bolt action compared to its size and cost of reloading. Truely remarkable how efficient it is.

Yes, other options exists but they all require unnecessary work.

105grainers
Lapua brass
CCI 450
8208 (I throw charges) you’ll probably want something a little bit slower.

I plink steel at 1k with a 22” Barrel.

The highest performance is probably the 22 caliber improved versions of the grendel case. Long throat, Long barrel and 90gr Berger vld will get close to 3000 fps. The barrel might go quick but...

Had a 6mmART40 and now a FatRat. I won long range steel matches with the former against the 260's, etc. That was with 105 Amax at 2875 fps.

A friend who was wanting to try out our local steel match borrowed my AR/6mmART40 after the match to try it on steel. Half a dozen of us with our fancy 6x47, 6XC, 260's etc engaged the 10" at 810Y. He hit it 6 times in a row, the rest of us couldn't repeat what he did.

People don't realize how well the 95's, in the 6mm grendel variants, do in the wind out to 600Y. Get on the JBM and see for yourself, basically they'll go 100 fps faster than 105's and you can feel the difference in recoil. My current load is 95SMK at 2870 fps out of a 22" AR barrel in 8 twist.

I had excellent results at 1122Y with my AR in FatRat on a few occasions. A 19" steel plate with 5 mph winds was almost no challenge and vertical was shy of 8".

None of what I mentioned was off a comfy bench and benchrest, but off a Harris bipod laying on the ground.

We shoot the Grinch it has a little less powder capacity than the fat rat, we have ran it up to 2970 but it is a little hard on primer pockets, oh that's with 105 barts, it does best around 2920. you might check with Mike Ezell he has the 6 Grendel, I don't know if he has tried the 105s but has shot a lot with 80s. I would think the 6 Grendel would run 2800+ with the 105s and the right powder. The BR case will work if you turn the case head down Ron Hoehn can do this for you 636 745 8144. We came up with the Grinch about a year and a half ago it has performed very well both at short range and 600. We use the same rifle for short range and for 600, it has won a few times at short range, I think second is the best it has done at 600. We also use Barts 80s in a 12 twist those things flat shoot, 3220 seems to be the best speed for those. Lots of different ways you can make that short range gun work for you.

I sent my Farley 6PPC bolt to Greg Tannell and it will now function 100% with either the PPC or the BR brass,,I have an 8 twist 6BR 13.5 twist 6BR and 12 and 14 twist 6PPC bbls and they all work very well,,

gonna try and get a 8 twist 6BRA and a 12 twist 6BRA before the matches start this spring,,I am looking forward to shooting 600 yard benchrest at the new Dead Zero range at Spencer,Tn..and trying the 80 gr bullets with the 12 T BRA in UBR score,,need to hit the lottery

Why do you limit yourself? Get your bolt face opened to accept regular sized BR and variants or bigger. I have had both my 6PPC Pandas opened(less than 100.00 apiece). Have had 6BR to 6.5 X47 barrels on with good success. The rt eject port has still worked with all of them. They both still work fine with PPC also.
