well i got a new build, but what now?

yeah i was looking at the price of brass and dies the other night. its a little steap, but hopefully it will be worth it. the altitude where i live is beteen 940 and 1000 ft. is that better for shooting long range or worse?

It's worse, the higher the altitude the flatter it shoots, but no big deal, with a 130 gr. Berger VLD at 2950 or so with a 26" bbl is a 700 yard deer killer.

Bottom line is, for 500 yards, even a 6.5x47 Lapua with a 20" bbl pushing 130's at 2800 fps. carries enough energy and speed to take deer out to 600 yards.

yeah im gonna try to find a pre-fit drop in barrel in 6.5x47L if i can. that way i can try to save some money on smith work to get the reloading stuff that i need. maybe a 26 or 28 inch bbl.

What contour barrel are you looking for, something that fits your factory profile? Or are you going bigger?

im not really kooing for anything in particular, but then again i dont reall want a 15-20 pound rifle to haul around. maybe a remington varmint contour or a little bigger. depending on what i can find really.

Give Jim Briggs at Northland Shooter Supply a call. He sells Remington barrels that use a barrel nut like a Savage, so no smith needed. They are actually McGowen Stainless Premium Match Grade barrels, so they are a pretty nice barrel to start with. He will order you anything you want if you ask, and I believe it will be shipped directly to you as well.

And while it's not a 6.5X47, he does have a .260 barrel with a 1-8 twist in stock for $259 plus $28 for the barrel nut. It would definitely work and be very similar in ballistics if you were in a hurry. Or you could just wait and order the 6.5X47, it's all up to you. Either way, he is a great guy to deal with and will take good care of you.

ok well after some research i think the .260 rem. is actually a better choice for me financially. the reloading dies are a lot cheaper, and i can get bulk bullets from my friend basically for free. but with a 1-8 twist barrel what would be the best weight bullet to use heavier or lighter?
