6ppc benchrest barrel conversion to what?

I have a replaced 22" 6ppc 1:14 barrel that came off my Stolle Panda,.308 bolt face) that should have a lot of varmint hunting life in it. As I can swap barrels, this would give me a chance to shoot my benchrest rifle more using another barrel. What are the options to re-chamber this barrel and have an interesting varmint rifle? I am partial to the 6mmBR case but would consider other options. Thanks, Woodman

With any bullet that will stabilize in the 14 twist, you won't be able to tell any difference between the 6PPC and the 6BR for varminting. Try some 58gr V-Maxes. You can easily get 3700 - 3800 fps out of the PPC with one-hole accuracy.

I would keep the 6 PPC or do a 6 BR. For prarie rats the 6 PPC with a 58 Vmax would be great. I would open the neck up to take a non neck turned case and go shoot. On the other hand a 6 BR would give more FPS and has brass already formed.

If you want to avoid costs, I'd leave the bolt face alone. There are several cal. you can do with the PPC. 17,20,22,6, and 30. But as RoyinNC has the best advise, leave it as 6PPC.

Neil, The Panda's pull both and won't need mods to pull a 308 case as he already has the correct one.

Not necessarily. They did/do make Pandas with PPC specific boltfaces.

Thanks for the advice guys. I read so much about these super 6mm variants that I forgot what an accurate and decent varmint caliber 6ppc could be without any work or expense. I suppose VV133 works with 58Vmaxs as well as it does with 66 BIBS? Thanks Woodman

Try some Reloder 10X or better yet... Accurate 2200 with the 58 grainers if you want to really make them sizzle!

vmthtr, I had Kelbly modify my PPC bolt face to accept PPC or BR. The newer action, are already set up to handle PPC or BR. What year this started I don't know. I think my action is a 2002.
