Absolutely I've tested every single round out there CCI Velocitor is King ,dozens and dozens of varmints taken , including deer on my nuisance permit spots. a serious contender is Aquila Interceptor.CCI velocitor, best hunting .22 LR hunting ammo.
Nothing shoots dismal out of my Tikka T1X , just saying Tikka got their act together on that rifle.I recently tried some Aguilla Interceptor 40g Hollow Points. 1470 FPS. I haven't tried them for accuracy as I've only shot them in a Ruger American mainly for armadillos. Probably dismal on accuracy.
And, Winchester Super X, HP's,.. IF,.. you can find any that,.. stay BELOW,.. 1,280 FPS !CCI Mini-Mag HP
Yes, the Winchester Super X HP are great. A while back when I lived in Indiana I kept a Browning T-Bolt loaded with them in the garage. They were deadly on crows at 75 yards and easily dispatched the troublesome Fox squirrel with a head shot. And, Winchester Super X, HP's,.. IF,.. you can find any that,.. stay BELOW,.. 1,280 FPS !
I made an 85 yard shot, on a Sage Rat with, the Win Ammo and,.. DRT !
The CCI Mini Mag's work fine also, but am getting slightly Tighter groups with, Win HP's ( some Lots ! )
SK Standard Plus ammo, shoots great, in My green Mountain Barrel, also !
I have only shot a couple of Sage Rats so far, so, the Jury is, still out on them.
Key is,.. accuracy Testing in, YOUR Barrel and then, STAYING with,.. THAT, load !
HP's have, a slight FLAT at, the Nose area ( around, the HP ) and they just Kill,.. BETTER than, reg Round Nose.
I have a Tikka T1X also, but I think too much of it to use it as a tractor gun like I do the Ruger.Nothing shoots dismal out of my Tikka T1X , just saying Tikka got their act together on that rifle.
But, if he did by a 17HMR, then we would be reading the post he would be making about split cases! My two cents. The OP has posted a reservation hunt for P-dogs and doesn't know if .17HMR is legal, and also if he/she wants to buy a .17 for one hunt.
My answer, if legal, .17HMR all day long! If questioning the purchase of a .17HMR, trust me, you'll find plenty of other uses for a nice .17 than just the one hunt on that specific property.

Don't know why you picked my post to snipe at, as the .17HMR was mentioned several times here by others, but so be it. IME, I have never had a split case with .17HMR after several different loads in 2 different rifles. I have read posts/threads from others that have, but have also read the same about .22LR and .22WMR. Both of which I have never had an issue with either. So Knotwild, if you have had experience with issues actually shooting the .17HMR, perhaps you could elaborate on your experience rather than taking cheap shots at someone else's post. But, if he did by a 17HMR, then we would be reading the post he would be making about split cases!
Why even bother with those anemic calibers step up to a 17 hornet and have some real fun!Don't know why you picked my post to snipe at, as the .17HMR was mentioned several times here by others, but so be it. If the OP is only restricted to rimfire, not caliber specific, the Hummer is the best choice for his target. Some may feel the .17WSM would be best, but that is the only RF round I have EVER had problems with and no longer use that caliber. To 'practice what I preached' above, my reasons are many split cases, consistent misfires, and much less than acceptable accuracy, even considering it is a hunting round. Again, JME.

Perhaps because it appears the OP is restricted to either .22lr, or possibly only rimfire......read the whole thread. Rimfire thread, not centerfire. Why even bother with those anemic calibers step up to a 17 hornet and have some real fun!
No melt down here. Just pointing out the original content of the OP's thread......which your 'opinion' did not address. And I managed to do that without name calling!Don't have a meltdown, hussy, just my opinion.
The question and topic:Suggestions? This is a must in an area we would hunt.
Title of the post says what 22 ammo. If you think I was sniping, you are wrong, but maybe sensitive to an opinion other than yours. The 17 does not fit my shooting needs. Yes, I have seen many split cases come out of nice rifles. But I'm not upset that you like it. I bought a Tikka 17 for a good friend because it does fit his needs. It has a place, just not in my house. Plus I don't want to have more patches, jags, and brushes to keep up with.Don't know why you picked my post to snipe at, as the .17HMR was mentioned several times here by others, but so be it.
