I am wondering which thumlers tumbler you fellas use with the stainless pins?

Thumler's Model B Rotary High Speed Tumbler, with high lift cam and dual header exhaust.

Don't forget to change the oil every 3,000 miles or you will get metal filings in the crankcase.

I'm using the hi speed model B with 15 pound drum capacity. Works great with SS pins. I bought it new, but still had to make some adjustments:

1. The drum was swaying sideways while tumbling, so I tightened all 4 retaining clips,

2. The main pulley had burs in its channel caused by the manufacturing mold, so I sanded them out. The burs were causing the belts to break too soon.

I use an RCBS Sidewinder I bought back when they were affordable 8) Still works great 30 years later and it gets used enough where I've worn the edges on the drive rings down a noticeable amount.

I read your comment about "back when they were affordable" and it peaked my curiosity, cuz I bought one and didn't like it so I gave it to a friend. I thought it was "Winky Dink".

Now it is over $400??

That is obscene!! There is no way in hell is it worth 1/2 that much.

Another Model B user, but with the slow speed motor. Works great with both ceramic and stainless pins. Zero issues.

Mine does everything a thumbler does. Holds the brass and cleaning/polishing media in, turns it over and over and over and over --------until I don't hear it running anymore.

When I bought mine it was just over 1/3 the price. It's not what one would call a piece of "High-Tech" equipment but it has, and still does, work fine.

You and others may think the price is obscene but for some reason RCBS still sells them. Must be more than one or two that are buying them.

I'm running TWO of the model B tumblers. I staggers brass into production in perfect manageable batches.

This will save you some time.

The reason I asked was a friend is pretty much giving me one but it seems to spin slower than the ones on you tube video's and was wondering if they made 2 model b's with different pulleys and motors.

yes there are two models the high and low speed. both work but the low speed one just takes more time.

Is it the motor that spins faster or is it different pulley configuration>In another words could someone measure the diameter of each pulley and tell me what rpm's the motor spins.

Technical Information:

Barrel Inner Dimensions: 8" x 7-1/2" x 6-1/2"
Voltage: 110 Volt
Capacity: 15 lbs
Media Included: No
Notes: The motor turns at 3000 RPM, turning the barrel at 40 RPM

Barrel Inner Dimensions: 8" x 7-1/2" x 6-1/2"
Voltage:220
Capacity: 15 lbs
Media Included: No
Notes:This is the low speed model which motor turns at 1500 RPM turning the barrel at 20 RPM

Watch out with your precision or neck-turned brass. Major peening after cleaning which means trimming and/or heavy chamfering. I have the high speed model but it is the bane of my brass. Looking to make it run about 1/4 the speed, else dumping it.

I've not experienced this peening in my wet tumbling, but I've heard others complain of it. I've been wet tumbling for a year now, and for me, at least, peening is a non-issue.

I use a Thumler's high speed tumbler, model B.

Just my own experience......

Depends on what you shoot. A 45acp or standard 308 chamber will most likely not notice it.

A tight neckturned round will no longer chamber after tumbling with the stainless media, heavy chamfering and possibly trimming will be needed to get the necks cleaned up again after every ride in the tumbler. The thin neck walls will just not take the massive steel mass that is tumbling over it, the weight acts as a hammer (hence the fast cleaning action together with the scraping of the stainless against the brass).

Just a warning to those with tight necks to try before you buy.
