West Texas switch lug system

muleman69

USMC -1st marine Div. RVN
Just reading about these and was wondering if anyone has tried them? Really looks like the way to go

I fired one of them in two different calibers. 25 Creedmoor and 6xc
The barrel swap takes no time. Very nice and simple. It is the way to go.

I have an old left port right bolt panda that I love just for that purpose. Two bolts and you can shoot anything from a.223 to a.308 case head. Takes 5 minutes to switch. Any good smith can chamber a barrel and time it without the action. And if you don't glue it in you can switch stocks just as quickly.....

I have several of the WTO SwitchLug rifles. It's a quick and easy way to change barrels, and/or cartridges, on an action. Return to zero is very close with torque of one screw on the lug.

Just be aware that the WTO Switchlug leaves your barrel in a hand tightened state, and relies on pins to prevent any rotation from further loosening it. It doesn't provide a very secure joint between the action and barrel, IMO.

That is not the case. The barrel is torqued by hand and then the SwitchLug is tightened with with a torque wrench to prevent movement. I have never had a barrel loosen in two years of use with the SwitchLug.

Hi All,

So, if I have an existing Definace Deviant in a manners stock, would I have to modify the stock for it to be incorporated? Sounds like I would need to have the action modified a little.

Here is a picture of the SwitchLug on one of my rifles. The stock is inletted a small amount to fit the lug. You have the option of this being the only inletting needed, if you don't mind removing the stock to change barrels.

Option #2 involves inletting the stock a bit over the length of the barrel threads + thickness of the lug. This allows barrel changes, without removing the stock, and is the most popular option.

I remove my stock to change barrels, so I use the first method on my SS barrels. I believe on straight barrel contours, like CF barrels, the inlet for for the lug thickness is all that is required, other than the normal barrel inlet.

I believe you only have to send the rifle in once, if your smith keeps good records. I do prefer to to send my rifles to WTO, when adding barrels with brakes, just to be confident timing is spot on.

No worries, one can apply a small amount of low-strength thread locking compound if needed...
