Went pigeon hunting with pcp

Pellet or slugs?
The pigeons have not invaded our storage tanks at work for several years. The last time they did the old RWS 45 Diana was given a work out. Between the son and I we put the hammer on them for about 45 days before the moved back to the grain elevator. We lost count at over 400.
The first day they were plain stupid. If you hit them and they just fell off with no flapping, the whole bunch would just look over the side. If memory serves me, shot over 60 the first day.
Anyone that disagrees with their removal, has never seen up close what their roost look like in short order. It is a mess and doesn’t wash off easily. Company had just spent over 250K with new insulated aluminum jacketed product lines. Pigeon crap will etch it, and if piled up and not removed will plain eat a hole in it.

That is pretty much what pushed me into a PCP air rig. I have not been disappointed as some have. I went with an early original FX Impact X in .25. Gent bought it and shot it little as he was more into the 30 cal and bigger. It had maybe 250 rounds through it. I am nothing less than impressed to say the least.
Buddy has a Panthera .22. He was doing some testing with some experimental slugs. 10 shot group at 200 meters, I won’t cherry pick and will say a 3” group was very doable. He has been doing more tuning and has trimmed that up a fair bit.

I will attest to the prolific accumulation of pigeon poo. I once dropped a shroud of a 1967 Winchester 450 air rifle into an unused silo. I jumped down in to get it. Sank to my knees in pigeon droppings, which had crusted and looked a lot like a cement floor in the dark. Besides barfing a bit, the ammonia stank was overwhelming. I was quite the sight yanking off the boots, dropping trousers, shaking like a dog from the thought of what I might catch and diving into the truck for a COLD ride home. I felt like every evil crawling microbe ever devise at the Fall of man was headed north, on me!

Dont do as snert did.

That sounds like a Petri dish to me Snert. The place I hunt is a feed mfg and I just shoot them off the auger between main building and silo/ grain bin. I use caution handling them.

the dairy industry in NY has been failing for years. i hunted many "$#it farms" because the rules about shooting holes in buildings (they mostly lacked walls and roofs) didnt apply. And i saw some pretty disgusting conditions. But i killed a huge number of pigeons and starlings!

We go out in the fall and look for them on purpose. We usually get them at the bridges. Several people on each side then start kicking the rails. If you get good t killing these birds, every other bird is easy to kill. We eat them. They are very good.

markT - What are you using for an air supply? I know the rifle has the tube, but what are you using to refill it?

I have an AL "SCUBA" tank and I have a local dive shop that fills my tank.
I've built a relationship with guys at dive shop and they treat me right...

I am not eating them, never will, flying rats. I am not going to eat a prairie dog either.
Watched one of those survival dooms day loonies a few years ago, trapped and ate a coyote.
I will be dang hungry to make a meal of vermin.

I do some pest control work on pigeons with an FX Dreamline Classic 22cal. It's a lot of fun. Thinking about putting a thermal on it. Would not eat them though. Don't even like handling them as they are full of lice. I've killed nearly 100 pigeons in the past month just by trapping too. They are a real pest here too.
