A man has to know his limitations. Find a good welder. That will be a simple job that won't cost much.
YUPYou would think, but he wouldn't give me the time of day once I told him it was a 788 bolt.
Guys, no one better than Dan Armstrong! accu-tig.comA man has to know his limitations. Find a good welder. That will be a simple job that won't cost much.
He was my first contact. Once he heard 788, he never responded to me again.Guys, no one better than Dan Armstrong! accu-tig.com
That’s interesting, I did not know this. The reason I asked the question is because he sounds like a novice welder. Some welders have duty cycles, as low as 20%. Which is 2 minutes in real time if the welder is a brand name. I understand the size of the bolt handle. If someone who doesn't weld a lot might not understand AMP drop if they keep trying to run a continuous bead.
Well Dan is pretty strong in his beliefs. Over the years he has done around 20+ for me. I can't offer anything to you except I have had a good relationship with him and his work is very top notch and he turns them very quickly. He was my first contact. Yep, I'm expecting it. Cerakote is my second option. Need some sort of rust protection.Dont be surprised if bluing it makes it look worse. The dis-similar base and weld metals will blue differently. Looks good to me as is.
Coming from you Al, that means a lot, thank you. Same to everyone else who gave me solid advice. I know the (second time) weld will hold just fine and I'm happy with the outcome for a hunting rifle I bought unfinished from my shooting partner/gunsmith for cheap and being able to keep it cheap. He knows I like the 788s!Good job! -Al
