Welding in flutes!

So I have a fluted 30 cal barrel that's been chambered in 308
But need a doner for my 30major gas gun.
Any concerns of welding the flutes in where the gas block goes then turned to .750?
The flutes are too deep for a .750 block.

It would more than likely warp the barrel. You could probably get away with jb weld.I even use it on engine cylinder heads to plug deep pits that wont come out when I mill an antique cylinder head.

But if your serious, it may serve the "end purpose", if you care nothing about "end accuracy".
Take an old or wore out barrel, and push a tight patch or slug down it. Then weld a bead down it a couple inches and push the patch/slug down it again and you will feel the answer.
Lay it next to a square both before and after, and you will see some answer as well.
