Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hello all. I've been lurking here for a little while. I started loading .45 auto am 10mm. Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of shooting and loading for tiny groups. I'm shooting off the shelf rifles in .308 Win, 6.5 Creed and 6.5 PRC. I have a custom rifle in process of being built as I type this. It is a 6BRA benchrest rifle. I'm trying to improve my loading skills. I have all the great gear so the pressure is on me. I'm getting there but tons to learn. Sometimes I find myself going in circles but I'm slowly figuring things out. I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Not really a new member, just been absent for many, many months, farm structure repair stuff, hurricane then a tornado, lightning, etc. Finally got back to near 2019 status, now on burn pile 62, still burning trees, lost 200-250. I do most everything myself, so it is a grit teeth and spit kind of deal when things go south. Good to be back.

Hi, My name is Doug Casner. I belong to the old Benchrest Central site. Theres not much going on there these days. Ive talked to some of the guys on here before. Jackie, Boyd, probably some more. Dont shoot B.R. any more but still like to shoot. Look forward to learning something. Doug

Just recently joined the forum. I’ve been reloading for 30 years although saying that seems a little fraudulent. I had an assignment to Alaska in the 1980’s and bought a Ruger in 338 Win Mag. I was fortunate enough to meet a guy that became a friend and he taught me to reload those cartridges on his equipment. He gave me a very good lesson on that cartridge on his equipment with general safety tips, but I wouldn’t say I was a reloader.

After I came back to the lower 48, I slowly drifted away from hunting and firearms in general as life intervened. Eventually, I’d given all my guns to my sons except for the Model 29 S&W I was talked into buying as a backup gun for Alaska.

I retired and renewed my connection with firearms and decided to start reloading again. It was about the worst possible timing as just about the time I rounded up the equipment, the big ammo shortage hit and it’s been a struggle to find the components. I have managed to find some here and there and reloaded a few thousand rounds over the past few years, but I’m still learning as I go. I appreciate the advice and support I’ve received here. Thanks for the welcome.

Hello, My name is Robert. I'm 70 yrs old, born and raised in Arizona and I live and retired here as well. Now in SE Arizona. I started reloading metalic cartridges and shotshells in 1972. I don't consider myself an expert by any means. I reload 38/357, 9mm, 380acp, 556/223, 762.51/308win and 7mm rem mag. 12ga shotshells.

For brass I use an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme single stage press for working up loads before moving on to my RCBS Pro Chucker 5 progressive loader for production. I use this method of load development and production for 12ga, Lee Load All 12ga for work up loads and a MEC 9000g 12ga for production This method has worked for me for many years.

Finding and obtaining components for reloading wasn't an issue for me when I started this journey. Thankfully I kept to the motto; Be Prepared, so when plentiful I made sure to have on hand what I needed and what I believed I would need for the future.

Like I said at the beginning, I'm not an expert or a pro. I love to shoot as much as i'm able. 'live to shoot another day' reload to accomplish that. Glad to be here, and continue the journey to learn and share what I can. Thanks

Good evening All

Christo here - all the way from South Africa
Been loading for a good 37 years now. Loading everything from 223 all the way up to the big bores as well.

Up to a few years ago, we were pretty restricted on access to reloading equipment (we were able to get hold of the basics, and local powders). But in recent years things have certainly turned around and all the options of having access to multiple ways to address the the same need, is now truly on our doorstep.

While I enjoy reloading, and what it offers us from both a precision and competitive perspective, the real joy lies in applying this in the hunting field. And that's where my true passion lies. While I've been loading for 37 years, the hunting part stretches' well over 40. I'm very close to being able to say that I have hunted must every creature that the Southern Africa soil has to offer.

Looking forward to learning more from you guys (and girls)

Cheers from a sunny Africa
Christo

Hello from Finland!

I've been reloading for 10+ years. Currently reloading .223 Rem, .308 Win, 7.62x54R, 9.3x74R and will soon start with 5.6x50R Mag. I reload mostly for hunting but also some range stuff and subsonic.

Hello from South Park Colorado!!

I wanted to get into reloading so my husband bought me a Dillon XL650 for Christmas in 2020. I have only been reloading 9mm range rounds since that is what I shoot most but I am looking to get into rifle rounds and could use some help and that's what brought me here!

Welcome! You should be able to get plenty of good advice here. And maybe some bad advice also!

Hello everyone. I'm a former avid reloader that hung up my reloading spurs in 2006. My beloved reloading bench has been sitting idle since then. I used to reload mostly pistol, with the exception of 44 Mag that I chambered in a 44 Marlin Lever Action Rifle. Today, I have sold many of my firearms, but I still shoot 38/357 (pistol and rifle), 40 S&W, and 12 Gauge.

Here is a pic of my long neglected Reloading Bench, a Sears Craftsman with thick Composite Wood top perfect for mounting a press. I need to clean this up, sort out the components, and inspect everything for condition before I put it back into service;

RescaledBench.jpg

This bench is sitting in an air conditioned finished basement, so the components are still in good shape with no rust or deterioration. Still, it's been 16 years of neglect, so I have to really start working on it to sort and clean and inspect everything before I put it back into production.

I do have a progressive attachment in storage that fits on the top of the RCBS Rock Chucker press you see on the right. Unfortunately, in about 1997, the progressive attachment overcharged a 357 magnum load that could have ended in disaster. Since then, I went back to single stage reloading, and I'm staying there. I don't mind single stage, and I'm not in a hurry, so it works for me.

I hope to have everything up and running by early September.

hi fellas! new to hunting, picked up 2 tikka t3x 7mm RM for me and wife to try hunt in paltry southern CA! oh well, and im planning on tinkering with reloading as a side hobby as well. Already have the kit and powders etc- so will def have questions.

7mm overkill for deer but we plan on doing some hunting in south africa as well possibly - larger buck and distances maybe..

I still use my RCBS Rockchucker that I bought new in 1973. Welcome back to the slow precision reloaders single stage group of old wet flarts and cold beer !
Suggest get you a Chargemaster RCBS and ditch that rcbs powder uniflow …….never could get the same charge weight twice.

Many thanks! I really like the Rock Chucker. I've been a solid single stage fan since my Rock Chucker "PiggyBack" progressive reloader (that mounts on top of the Rock Chucker) overcharged a 357 magnum cart on me around 1995. The overcharged cart seized to the inside of the cyllnder, but luckily the Ruger Police Service Six I was shooting held together. I suspect that the RCBS Uniflow was suspect, as it mounts on to the "Piggyback" progressive for powder charge loading.

So I will definitely get a Chargemaster and ditch that Uniflow. I appreciate the great advice. Thanks again!
