Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hi! My name is Gabe. I’m retired and live in Florida. I’ve been reloading since 1963. My interests have been small and medium rifle calibers with a few pistol and revolver cartridges included. My main interest is making hunting grade rifles shoot routinely sub MOA. If all goes to plan, Rick Scrivens in Nokomis Florida will be building a 6mm Norma BR for me to compete in club matches in the very near future.

Hello from NM. I've been reloading for 5 years or so, time to up my game. Currently working up loads for 204 Ruger, planning a .20 Practical Contender project.

Hello all, I've belonged to this wonderful forum for quite a while but never posted much. I made my way over from the Specialty Pistols forum, I have had a love hate relationship with the Thompson Center Contender since 1979. I had the good fortune to be invited to the Big Piney Sportsman's Club for a "hand gunners " get together and after shooting there for a couple of days I have decided to try my hand at F class shooting, I'm thinking FTR to start with. I do have a 6MM BR but it's an Encore pistol barrel that has been laying around for several years and I don't think I have even shot it since acquiring it in a trade. I dug it out today and plan to give it a try in the near future. I have been reloading for right at 50 years and while I still hunt on occasion I really enjoy punching paper too, anyway thanks for having me!

Good day, all. My name is Mike. A google search on 6mm ARC loads led me here to discover QuickLOAD. I am still awaiting its delivery, and will spend my time until then browsing your collected wisdom in the forums' histories.

Load development living in a major metro area is a challenge. I am currently wondering how big a legal ruckus I might cause myself with an in-basement bullet-trap, to safely dispose of test rounds built along the way. It isn't like I would actually chrono the test rounds as they're being disposed.

Have you considered disassembling the rounds? With almost all reloading components being hard to come by these days, it’s a shame to waste the bullets and powder which you could recover if you disassemble the rounds. There are kinetic bullet pullers which some people use. I prefer the collet style bullet pullers that work with your reloading press. You can find a lot of info about this in this forum if you search on “bullet pullers”.

Surely, Your Honor, that is certainly possible and both those means are readily available to me. However, it seems entirely obvious that disposal in a chamber built to contain the discharge pressures is both safer and less complicated than disassembling the live round in the open air.

(I do fully intend to chrono the rounds as they are destroyed. My intent is to measure the ES and SD in home rather than 40 miles and an hour's drive away at the range.)

More seriously, I do own both types of pullers and have taken apart many rounds in the past. I never did like working with the primed case, or the slightly chewed bullet in the case of the puller die. Things are a little different now than when I had only the Dillon 650. The primed case then was more a liability than workable salvage.

Nice guys get to be members here for free, but I think you are going to need a paid membership like me. Welcome to the Forum.

As value goes, I may do just that. Not out of penance, but in partial payment for value already received. In-home disposal over the magnetospeed seems somewhat moot after tripping over GRT here.

Newby here . Although I do have experience in Shotshell reloading I am just getting started with metallic reloading . I will be starting with 5.56 , 9mm and 45acp. I have already bought the newest Lyman and Hornady loading books and have read them completely . I also have been following Gavin at Ultimate Reloader for a couple years . I have also purchased a Dillon RL550C . I have not even opened it since I plan on getting a single stage and starting with that . I have managed to get some powder CFE Pistol 2lbs , And Accurate 2520 3lbs and 3000 LPP . Sill waiting to get SRP' and SPP's . I'm thinking of going with the MEC single stage and priming with a 21st Century hand primer . Looking foreward to picking your guy's minds for info . Hope I'm not too much of pest . LOL

New but not so new member. Lurked and extracted knowledge from many here over the years.

want to keep learning from those that knows more than me, and help / support those where I can.

parts/components/anything is hard to find, especially at a good price nowadays. Will share anything interesting I find out there or have access to!

I'm Dann, and here to lurk and learn. It's amazing the things one doesn't even realize they don't know, until they begin the trip down the rabbit hole.

Hi all, I’m looking forward to learning from everyone here. I’ve been loading .308 for years now and just started loading 9mm too. Cheers

So here is my first question:
Can it be determined what size pistol primer is needed for 45acp by looking at the hole size at the interior base of the case? I have seen three different size holes at the bottom. One is tiny, the next is a little bigger and the third is the largest. Can I assume that the largest takes the "large pistol primers" and the tiny takes the "small pistol primers"? The middle guy baffles me all to hell.

I'm 82 and have been reloading since 1964. I am trying to reply to Jmupt's add for a set of 45 ACP dies for sale. I had one of the first Dillon Super 1050's that I bought through an estate sale. Herter's were my first tools.

Hello all!

Been reloading and shooting for a while, but things are finally starting to click. Looking to add to the discussion here and continue to learn.

Name's Jim. Live in Calgary Alberta and shoot at the Calgary and District Target Shooters Association range at Milo Alberta (100 - 600 meter range).

Interested in improved precision with my .222 and .22-250. So far I'm at ~0.39 MOA shot at 200 meters and trying for 0.25. Sierra and Berger 52 - 55 grain, loaded over IMR-4198 and H380, are working the best.

As a semi-retired engineer my approach is based on data statistics. I've tried some of the "fast" methods, but just can't convince myself they apply to my calibers.

Been reloading for ~8 years, but only "seriously" for 4 so I'm always interested and open to others experience and thoughts.
