Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Wizardawake...wouldn't/don't use the 265gr BTHP data for a 168gr AMax...

Here's a couple good recipes for 168gr in .308. These should get you close to the optimum barrel time. You should start min of 10% below them and work up looking for pressure signs.

.308 Winchester using IMR 4895
168 grain bullet, 43.6 grains

.308 Winchester using Varget
168 grain bullet, 46.0 grains

Greetings everyone.

I'm new to this forum but I've spent alot of hours learning off of it already. Looks as if there is an endless amount of experience on this forum. I look forward to making friends and hopefully adding to the discussions.

About myself:
I live in SW WY and have been shooting/reloading for the past 23 years, (35 yrs old now). I enjoy shooting paper but once I get where I'm satisfied with that I really like shooting fur. Coyotes, prairie dogs, rock chucks, and when I'm lucky enough to draw out every big game animal in WY. My favorite gun at the moment is my trustworthy 7rem mag followed by a 22/250.

Best regards,
Ricco

Hello:

I'm a Savage Rifle fan. Mainly because of out-of-the-box accuracy. With a little extra tuning and the right loads, it can challenge the custom jobs. Currently working on getting the smallest groups possible from my .204 & .223.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum here, and so far I must say this is a fantastic place with good people, and excellent advice and information! I love the vast amount of experience I'm seeing here!

I've been shooting since I was 6 years old, and reloading since I was about 22 years old.

Mostly I reloaded in bulk (relative term with a single-stage RCBS RCII press) using the cheapest components available. I was a poor starving college student only interested in training & putting as many rounds down range as I could. My focus was on quantity, not quality!

Never owned a precision rifle before, unless you can count my K-31 Swiss a 'Precision' rifle... I recently helped my father build a precision 308 out of a Savage 10 FCP-K compensated rifle. So far the accuracy is stunning once the accustock was adjusted a little better. I've come to realize, from shooting this 308 Savage that, although my handloads were quite accurate from most 'common' firearms, this new rifle has shown the notable deficiencies in my handloads!

I cast all my own handgun bullets, shotgun slugs, and a couple rifle caliber bullets from lead alloys.
I reload Handgun ammunition in 38spl, 357, 380 ACP, and 45 ACP - all with Hodgdon's Universal.
I reload 12 Gauge shotgun slugs with Hodgdon's Universal.
I reload 7.62x39mm and 7.5mm Swiss with cast bullets using H335.
I reload 223/556 with cheap 62 grain FMJ bullets & H335.
Until recently, I reloaded 7.5mm Swiss and 308 Winchester with H335, and 180gn SierraMK & 168gn SierraMK (respectively), and got 'decent' results.

I LOVE loading with VERSATILE powders that work well across a wide range of cartridges.

Learning that my volume-based powder measure (old Lyman 550 type) was likely the culprit in my accuracy problems, I've recently switched to loading 7.5mm Swiss and .308 Winchester with Hodgdon's Varget, and very meticulously hand-trickling my powder charges!

The resuls thus far are amazing, but I need to learn more about bullet seating depth, jump vs. jam, meticulous case preparation, and fine-tuning my powder charge.

Since I live in the twin cities, and have been rather 'high profile' in the local shooting community, I've come to be very close friends with a number of people that work for Federal Ammunition / Alliant Techsystems. Ballistics Technicians, Armorers, and I'm hoping to learn as much I can from the experiences of the membership here, and hopefully I can contribute to the forum as much as I can in the future (once I learn more about precision loading).

Thank you for such a wonderful forum with great information! It will take me a long time to digest this much knowledge!

I am new to the site as a registered member but have lurked here for some time now. Always interested in ballistics but certainly no professor. I also assemble AR15 type weapons and do some trigger work on both AR's and pistols.

I shoot both CMP and HP match (I am a terrible shot,) and like to tinker. I have been hand loading for ~20 years, but feel I have only scratched the surface.

Frank Shuster recommended this site to me at our gun club. Now I don't have to wait until I run into him to ask a question. :)

G' day

I live on the South Coast of Australia, right on the edge of Bass Straight, and it's blowing like hell, after all it's oour winter.
I hope I can contribute to the site, and share some of my reloading experience.

I reload all my own ammunition, and that of some mates... some calibres are 204 Ruger; 222; 223; 22-250; 6.5*55 mauser; 243win; 270 win; 338 win mag; .444 marlin.

All good fun to use, and heaps better and cheaper, than premium factory rounds

Cheers

Hello Gentlemen,
I'm novicemarksman from Melbourne Australia. I've been shooting for a long time, even shoot some long range comp ( fullbore here in aus) but learned a lot from this site. So, time to fully participate. I have a project underway based around the Savage 110 action. This is basis for an affordable switch bbl gun. More to follow. Now, I'd like to ask for some help in identifying some bullets I just bought. They are 30 cal, 190 HPBT, packed in a Hornady box ( labelled 190 HPBT). But, these have a v long ogive, fine HP and a recessed base - like some of the Lapua bullets. Any ideas out there?
Regards NMM

Will be starting to reload .223 soon , trying to get everything together. Big question. Whats the difference between a .223 bullet and a .224?? Are they compatible to reload in your general .223 cases. I cant seem to get a straight answer

Hi to all. Just new to site and have been shooting F-Class comp in Australia for the last 12 months. On reading some of the posts have I've found a lot of info some I've put to good use and some has been not much help at all, but its all good to read and see different points of view and what works for other shooters, hope to learn lots from the site and maybe throw a few suggestions myself that you may find useful. I use a .308 Ruger and generally use 155g BJDHBC projectiles. Although I have been shooting for most of my life and have a military background I am still new to the F-class scene and reloading for myself so am always on the look out for more info and would gladly take in any offerings of advice.

GOOD Shooting to you all
Thanks ;D

Just found your site doing some reload surfing.
I am new to the art of reloading, mainly 223 and 9mm, so I hope I can
learn from some of you old reloading experts moving forward.

Hello everyone

I'm quite new to this sport, I have purchased a 6.5 284 and shot it for the first time this past weekend, and really like it! I loaded 142grain sierra's mk with a lapua case, hodgdon h4831sc.

Other than shooter error, is there anything out there better then what I'm using to load that will increase accuracy.

thanks
Nick

Greetings from Wyoming! I've been lurking here for too long, time to register!
Not a competition shooter, but reloading since 1963, now load for seven calibers.
Hope I can contribute something useful.

Hello. I am a novice reloader and very long time factory load shooter. I loaded for handguns in the beginning and slowly started working up loads for my long guns. I came here after a referral from johnboy about how much this site is welcoming and helpful to a new rifle cartridge loader like me. I have the following calibers .223, .243 win, .270 win, .308 win, and 8mm in long guns. I will be using the search engine alot before I just ask, and will be eager to learn from this wealth of knowledge.

Been shooting all of my life, but reloading for only a few years. No competions yet, but I plan on trying a few out. I really got interested in long range shooting about 4 years ago when I shot out to one mile with a 50 cal. My rifles at the time were being pushed to hit a Larue at 900 so the process of upgrading began. Ran the semi-auto route for a while but I have since transitioned into bolt action tactical style rifle. (I'd guess many have). I've been reading the daily bulletin for probably two years and just recently joined th forum to learn more and get q's answered. glad to be here!

Hello my name is Sonny and was lead to this site when I did a search for Lucas bore guide. Am so happy I found you the WEALTH of knowledge on this site WOW. Thanks and God bless America!!
