Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone. I am a couple years into this reloading thing and I am hooked. This looks like a great site with very intelligent folks. I have a lot of questions and a lot to learn still. Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the forum :)

Hi, hello, and howdy all!!!
I'm new at the reloading game and am looking to seek out experienced loader's opinions and thoughts on the subject. I am searching out those of you that can help me avoid a lot of trial and error. (yes, I have already purchased the latest and greatest Nosler book) I am primarily focusing on reloading for my AR15 and my 30-06. I welcome everyone's thoughts and hope to read some good advice, "recipes", thoughts on manufacturers and products as well.

Thanks

Hi folks, my name's Les from Newcastle upon Tyne which for our 'colonial cousins' and those 'down under' is situated on the north east coat of England.
I have been shooting since 1974 and started off with pistols/revolvers and a little rifle shooting. Since we had our handguns taken off of us by our wonderful trustful politicians, I took up benchrest and also f class which I love.
Have met some of our American cousins at Blair Atholl range in Scotland a while ago and also Stuart and Annie Elliott from Oz at my 'local' range which is Diggle near Oldham in the Pennine hills, the range takes 2.1/2 hours to get there but well worth the visit. We have some local ranges but they are run by the Army and due to the cost and your only on the range for 4 hours max is not worth the effort.
Going down to Diggle this coming friday for a weekend of F class shooting as part of the GB league and lots planned for meals out of an evening and obviously some beer. So looking forward to that.
Well, gotta dash as have a pile of 284 Shehane cases to clean and sort out.
Good shooting to all no matter where you are.
Best wishes, Les Prior

This is my first login. I'm 75 and just built a .22x 6mm Rem Ackley with a Douglas 28" 1x7 bbl. I have been using 44 gr of 4831 to blow thw cases. I found that Winchester cases split on me after 2 shots. I have good luck w/ Reminton. Any one else have any input on this caliber? the bbl has about 150 rounds and has been meticulusly cleaned after each shot. i am waiting to try some 47gr/4831, and some Reloader 25 that was recommende to me. I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys. Hey, any Jarheads out there from 5th Marines? rimigo

Rimigo,
Welcome to the forum, I have never had good luck w/ Remington brass but if you are then great, have you tried Norma? I have used the 6mm AI a lot but never had the pleasure of the 22 version, have you tried the COW method? that worked real well for me, you may have to anneal after first fireforming. I am no Marine, I couldn't get in but my hat is off to all service men past, present, and future for keeping this the greatest nation on Gods green earth :) You ought to post this question of yours on the re loading section of this forum as not many people read this one, I think you will get a much better response. My father is three years older then you, he has never been a BR shooter but a avid hunter and still is, we were planning our deer and elk hunts yesterday and will finish his new permanent shooting shack/deer stand this afternoon, I hope I am still helping him get his game when he is 100, I will be 70 ;) best of luck to you rimigo and hope to hear from you soon.
Wayne.

I am quite new to shooting, not having owned a firearm since I was 16 years old in 1963. It's a long story as to how I got into shooting three years ago. Suffice it to say, I bought a couple of 22s on a whim and the rest is history.

Currently. I shoot mostly 50 yard .22 LR point score, with a growing interest in small caliber centerfire. My only centerfire rifle, at this time is a Ruger No. 1 in 220 Swift for which I hand load. I have just purchased a Martini in 218 Bee as a cheap to feed fun rifle. I am, waiting for a .222 Rem. being built by Russ Haydon.

Due to a birth injury, I have little use of my right hand and arm, so I can shoot only with a bipod or a full benchrest setup. This also means I seldom find rifles on the shelf of gun stores that I can use and need to look hard for each next rifle.

In rimfire, my most accurate rifle is a heavily modified single shot Remington Model 37, with an Anschutz MPR as second best. I need to stop buying more rifles as the living room is filling with rifle cases.

Welcome to the form Slowshot. Glad you go back into it after so long.

Stop buying rifles? Heck you can add an extension to the house.

Jeff Williams from Evergreen, CO. Last summer I signed up for the F class shooting class at Trinidad State Junior College taught by Larry Bartholome. Up to that point I had only shot a 223 at 100 yards, a bunch of 22 rimfire and various pistols over the years. I was the only student without a rifle but Larry had a Savage Palma rifle with an FTR barrel that he let me use. 3 days of classroom and 2 days at the range at the Whittington Center in Raton. It was an interesting class and Larry was great...he said it was like herding cats...I think he did have fun teaching the class.
I have since purchased a Savage Palma rifle from one of the members here. I haven't been able to shoot it yet but want to get started. I'm going to pick up a couple boxes of the Hornady Palma loads and a box of Litz's fullbore to get started. I have loaded shotshells for years for skeet and trap but just getting into metallic reloading. I liked German Salazar's advice...if you can learn to shoot a 30 caliber 155 grain at 1,000 yards to learn the wind, you can shoot anything! I'm going to shoot the Savage at my local club (Golden Gun Club, Denver Metro) as they go out to 500 yards. Past that, talk to the guys at the Colorado Rifle Club which goes out to 1,000 yards.
I am a total newbie at reloading metallic and have a myriad of questions so I will post my initial question of what die set to purchase as I have my Birthday pricing at Midway USA and would like to take advantage of it. There are two posts going on the 308 right now but I don't want to hijack their thread.

Funny you should say that. We are moving to a bigger home next month. I will have an entire room devoted to rifle storage (the biggest safe that will go through the door) a loading bench and cleaning bench. Problem solved!

I found this site when looking for an item listed in the GUN WORLD (or GUNS) magazine and the link from the magazine didn't work, so I typed in the name of the company and this site came up with a review. GREAT! The product does not seem to be made anymore! BAD! Thought I should join so I could read this site easily.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and call myself NCshooter from, of course, North Carolina.

I'm a target shooter using 22LR, .223, and 6MM BR. I'm also a handloader. The 6mm BR site is great but it seems dated in areas like handloading. In some instance, where products are recommended at a certain price, the price in the article is way too low or longer available. :-[ Is there a way to find the most up-to-date material on whatever I need to research?

Thanks :D

Welcome NCshooter. When I looked at your name in your post, it threw me a bit because we have another fourm member called CNCshooter here.

Searches can be picky in what verbiage you use to do the lookup. I try to do several searches using different verbiage each time in hopes to get better hits. I do believe the search return comes back sorted by date with the most recent ones first. I have also found some prices low but many times its because the person has found the best price available and a better place to purchase it cheaper. If you are looking for the most up to date information, you can start a new post and get the latest replies. Posting a question like "Need best price for xxx" or "WTB xxx" will get you good replies. People on this site are amazing and will give great information. Some of the best shooters and reloaders in the world are on this site.

Again, welcome.

Hello Fellow Shooters.
My name is Bill, I'm retired and live in a motorhome. So we don't see snow or 100 degrees unless we get mighty unlucky.
Until my 284 Winchester gets built, my favorite rifle is a Win 70 243 WSSM with a 30" 8 twist Kreiger barrel. I've been busy with it. Barrel was chambered this past June and it now has 601 rounds thru it. Most of the 368 groundhogs I killed in Ohio this past summer (I'm currently in NC and moving to AL next week) were killed with this gun and four were over 700 yards. The gun has also hit a 10"x12" steel plate at 1250 yards.
This is a great forum and I'm glad it was recommended to me.

Nice rig Nomad47! Now tell us you shoot the Groundhogs from the top of the rig. That would be awesome.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome, Snake. Hmm, I hadn't thought about shooting them from the top of the MH, but its a great idea. Or for prairie dogs out west. There's enough room up there for my portable shooting bench and a chair.
Here's a pic of the roof.
