Weird issue?

I recently bought a used Nightforce Precision Benchrest 12-42x56 scope with the NP-R2 reticle for my Vudoo 22lr and find myself in a love hate relationship with it. For me the pros are the reticle itself, the glass clarity, the 1/8 moa clicks and the nice sharp clicks themselves. The only negative is the size and weight of this monster. Man it's big.

I really don't need a variable power scope and have a straight 45 power Sightron which I do like a lot on another target gun, but I do like this reticle. So, tell me would you suck it up and keep this big honker or downsize just for the weight and size?

To an F-Class shooter, the size/weight of a NF 12-42BR scope is about typical. It may be a few ounces heavier than some of the newer and lighter scopes available. My point is that with use over time, you probably will no longer even notice what you are currently perceiving as excessive size/weight. At that point, would any of the features unique to the 12-42BR scope (i.e. the reticle, adjustable mag, etc.) be something you'd really like to have? If so, just stick with it until the size/weight become your new normal.

Good advice

Depending on the weight of your rifle and how high the scope mount is you can get top heavy which get make shooting consistent more difficult. Only you can decide if this is an issue I in your situation.

This^^^^^^ What Steve said. You will not notice the weight after you get to shooting it. Plus when other scopes are going back to manufacture the NF will probably still be going strong.

I have the S3 45x45 on my 40x. Normally i shoot benchrest but a rimfire f-class came up which is shot prone. That scope was really hard to get behind. In centerfire f-class I shoot a NXS 8-32x56 and have no issues getting behind it. So I swapped my NXS 12-42x56 with the S3 and shot my next match. What a difference. I even came off of the 42x to 32x because the NC humidity on that morning was so thick with mirage. But I wasn’t frustrated as before. Exit pupilis very important. Only one way to get it. Go down in magnification or up in objective size. Having the 56mm you have options

This a very good point. I've seen the mirage running very strong at 42 and then back off the power range until the mirage is easier to work with.
