Weight reduction cutting a barrel inch by inch

Anyone ever weigh a one inch cutoff of the muzzle or the breech of say a HV barrel and see how many ounces that is? Obviously the weight changes as the contour changes, but was just curious if someone had the info.
Thanks
Brandon

@dmoran has posted a free barrel weight calculator in the past. Check the archives. Used carefully, verified against a reference, it will get you within 0.2 ounces. I use it all the time. Impressively accurate.

Very easy to calculate. Concentric cylinders so calculate the volume of 1" of barrel in sq in or cc's.

densitys of stainless steel is 7.7g/cc or 4.45 oz/cuin

Run the calculator.
Weigh an existing barrel and adjust until it comes out within 0.1 ounce.
Then adjust for cylinder diameter.
Keep in mind that you're giving up shoulder contact going to a 1.200 blank and approaching the minimum recommend diameter for BAT, etc.
