Weighing a gun

Any recommendation where I could go to weigh my gun? I have been useing a home scale but I know it's not something I want to trust. Just want to be sure I'm close, but not over FTR legal weight.

Thanks

There is a Fed X shipping terminal near by that weighed my 50.
I went in first and asked and she said sure.
With bolt removed of course, (weighed it with the scope.)
before it was all over, all the staff came to the front desk to
take a look.
This was in AZ.

Wouldn't a digital fish scale be accurate enough? That is what I use to weigh mine. But for me it is just a curiosity factor as to how much it weighs.

If you REALLY need to know, take it to a local shipping place; UPS or MailBoxes Etc. I did like mr45man and called ahead. Brought it in cased, no drama at all.

I use my digital kitchen scale, it only goes up to 5kg so I have to weigh it in two parts, scope and bolt together and the action and stock together.

kitchen scales are accurate to .5 grams so they are accurate enough.

Didos, for the the ups store. Their scales are super accurate. Would tell them up front what it is you want weighed.

6 or 7 years ago I bought a Ultra Ship 35 for around $40. Best money I ever spent. Use it all the time to
weight packages I ship at the post office. Alway spot on with them.

Any super market that cuts meat has certified scales, and usually a back door.... ;)

gat a Ultra Ship 55 it weighs about to .1 or one-tenth of an ounce,

careful to handle most of it is plastic but it works for less than 70 bucks shipped with ac cord good deals

then you can weigh your scope, your bipod your barrels, and os on your stock

you will use it if you buy it

You can get a digital fishing scale for $25.00. at Bass Pro or gander Mountain. I think Mine is a Rapala. It works fine for light guns and up to 75 lbs. with Oz. readout.

This is how I check all of my comp guns. Scale is "certified" and wighs to .01. Of course, I live in a small town....everybody knows everybody. Talk to the store manager and the head of the meat department. Usualy they cut and package in the AM and have everything cleaned up by early afternoon. I always have my bolt removed.

Second the Ultra ship 55, over five years old, price is right, compact. Pete

you can get a pretty good idea the weight of the gun by weighing yourself and then weigh yourself with the gun. the difference is the weight of the gun...approx.

I just went to the post office. Told them what i had she said bring it in. I have used them a couple of times no issues for me at all.

This is not the way to deal with rifle weight. As stated it is approximate and not the actual weight. As a person who has weighed hundreds of F-Class rifles at various National Championships and watched /had rifles weighed at World Championships let me caution you NOT to have your rifle, whatever it is, too close to the weight limit. Always be a few ounces under the limit. Also keep your scope caps on when you make it a few ounces under for insurance. No matter where you have it weighed or by whom the weight at the match is going to be the one that counts. Hopefully they have check weights but you never know.

The small amount of weight you have to take off the stock and/or the barrel will not affect the way your rifle shoots and will save you grief in the long run. It is hard on the person weighing a rifle to have to tell a visitor to our country who has flown from overseas that his rifle is well over the limit, but it has to be done. Especially if it is a matter of pounds, not ounces. Yes pounds! Know your weight and make sure it is well under the limit. I for one am not going to fly to South Africa with a rifle that is anywhere near the limit or even drive across the country.

Depends on what the reason is shipping u and the gun on bathroom scale plus one lb should work. Competition is another thing caps and sun shield should be a safety margin added weight is the best. any good didital scale should get you close Always remember their scales is what you weigh on check it several times or don't cut it close Good Shooting Larry
