Well I thought I would load up some ammo this morning and go out coyote hunting this afternoon. This gun is still a little new to me so I wanted to take it on its first official hunt this weekend. I started at my neighbors ranch behind me and started calling about 3:00 pm Saturday. I set up under some big sycamores in a dry creek in the shade and called to the south along a ridge that rose up to a distance of about 250 yds and crested. Within about 25 minutes I had two guests top the ridge and I fired and missed. As I said I am still getting used to my new gun and new caliber,6.5X47 Lapua shooting 120 gr Nosler ballistic tips). I shot too high and they were off.
I moved to another spot, this time on high ground and called again and in 20 minutes I had another coming to withing 300 yds. Shot and missed. Still holding over too high. I thought I would push my luck, waited 20 minutes and called again from same spot. I must have been calling really well because within 10 minutes another one came running and yelping at the same time,kind of like he couldn't help himself). I was determined not to miss so I just slightly held over and nailed him in the left shoulder at 193 yds. He collapsed without a movement. Here's the coyote and here's my rifle.
